Yes because these same people who want to get rid of safety nets think they can be the next millionaire. To them it's a reset button. Reality its accelerant for Rich people to be more powerful. Hate to be a nerd but the same thing happen with world of Warcraft with classic WoW.
Although this is true about some of them, I think people underestimate how much those on the right love being handmaidens to power, even in the absence of wealth or affluence for themselves. They're fine with it, as long as they're above brown people in the pecking order.
Iowa governor Reynolds (R)- just announced forming a state doge. She restricted the powers of the elected state auditor (Rob Sands, D) years ago when he exposed her abuse of Covid funds. So now instead of letting him do his elected job, she’s appointing others.
Not only does the arson get the money, there's an ongoing rebuilding fund, but it doesn't get rebuilt, and just go into the arson's pocket, infinitely.
Most of the red states have one by now, I would imagine.

I *went* to public higher ed in NH. I watched them *rescind* the budget they already appropriated, halfway thru the school year. My fave nontenured profs got let go. This was literally in the boomiest of boom years for the economy.
