I went to "an evening with" type show Reece Dinsdale staged a while back, really good night, hes a really decent guy. Anyway he said that Threads was the most fun he's ever had on a production despite the subject matter because they all got on so well and had a great time.
Obviously I'm in denial about the impending apocalypse, but when I watched it again recently I was struck by what a piece of tight, dramatic 'Play For Today' writing it is.
If you watch it backwards, it's an uplifting tale of technological progress, improving weather, and fire-proof budgies. Also a lady who can suck wee up her trousers.
it's good but also harrowing & horrific. Affected me far more when I watched it recently for the 2nd time than the 1st time in GCSE English in the early 1990s aged about 15 (when we found the bit with the supermarket getting looted & the woman pissing herself hilarious)
I remember getting it out on.. video.. at college iirc. And watching it, being utterly terrified by it. I watched it recently thinking I'm sure I could handle it now. Still utterly awful.

Did you laugh when the bomb interrupted Reece Dinsdale's dad having a shit?
I've had therapy for anxiety about such things fueled by watching that as a kid at school.
