The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the first case of severe bird flu in the United States: A patient hospitalized in Louisiana

And another 4 years of a pandemic. Where Americans rely on YouTube and memes because science is no longer real. They’ll refuse to do shit to keep each other safe and the cycle continues. The govt AND the people are to blame
I feel like at this point people are as complicit. The amount of willfully ignorant people that exist out here with super computers in their hands. It’s maddening there’s no excuse for it
100% and that’s another massive issue with white supremacy—it’s got the white poors thinking their time is coming to be rich and to keep with the path ahead, when they’re actually getting runner down at a high clip too. Opioids hurt rural America a tremendous amount that idt anyone’s discussing.
Racism has to be classified as a mental illness at some point bc they will sink the ship with themselves on it just to preserve and uphold their whiteness
Trump just said he probably can’t bring down grocery prices, that there’s little about grocery pricing that the president can control. It was literally in an interview he just did. Another day of we f-ing told you so.
I'm afraid I just don't believe this at all. This is something that's been around for hundreds of years, and now all of a sudden its making the leap from animals to human? I don't buy it. Sorry.
Yes. I’m not religious at all, but the people who voted for Emperor BoneSpur all claim to be religious. You’d think they, of all people, should have recognized a biblical plague the first time around.
Yep! Been saying this a lot lately. A lot of evangelicals believe everyone sits in purgatory until the official end-times and judgement and all that hocus pocus happens, so they can't get to heaven until they destroy Earth.
Reminder, not many people go in for testing for their respiratory illnesses. It’s likely that more people are getting bird flu and are mildly sick, and just aren’t being tested. This is a problem, the more people infected via zoonotic route, the more familiar the virus becomes with humans.
I mean if it can spread from a hen to a human that means the virus almost certainly can spread from one human to another too so things have changed. That noted since we have no evidence this person inadvertently infected anyone else its probably not worth assuming a full pandemic is on the horizon.
I wish they took this serious in January. I’ve been following this for like a year and I knew it was gonna spread. They refused to seriously contain it.
I follow a lady on Instagram that has been covering this situation and case for several weeks now. She also does regular Covid updates. She’s called Lizzie_Traveler she’s been warning that human to was coming and now it’s here! 😥
How are they supposed to contain it at this point? The best they can do is monitor it and see if it makes the jump to human-to-human transmission. It’s been around since the 90s and hopefully we’ll be lucky again and it’ll remain in birds
Maybe I wasn't clear. I meant January of 2024. Anyway, I think it's a bit too late. Also, it's already jumped to humans. My concern is whether it is human to human. They should've worked to avoid it...and now here we are.
We’re saying the exact same thing: the big concern is that it makes the mutation jump into human to human transmission. I have no idea how you think we could’ve worked to avoid that though. This has been the concern with bird flu for 30 years now
I see. They could’ve stopped it at the source by testing in agriculture spaces, requiring PPE, halting the sale of raw milk and such, informing the public to take any necessary precautions, etc.
mandate and provide PPE and testing for farm workers, increase funding for h5 mRNA vaccine research, mandate animal testing and culling, expansion of wastewater monitoring, institute new indoor clean air standards, mandate N95s in healthcare settings, raise and enforce infection control standards
Is this the big one scientists have been checking migratory birds for? I remember watching a documentary recently showing how the check and tag birds for testing and this superflu they’re anticipating, but I can’t remember the details
It’s a big one. If it mutates as viruses do and finds better human to human transmission it will be very bad. In humans it has a 50% mortality rate. No bueno.
douchebaggery is still happening bc ppl call SARS a “cold” and still believe in immunity debt…bc public health is dead. so yeah, this is gonna be worse…bc they’ve had years of practice in denial and not sharing hospital data…and not testing. counting my stars that we still have wastewater data.
Yeah, that's not correct, I don't think. If you read the article, ~60 people have had it in the U.S., and nowhere does it say a single one of them died. Fearmongering is not helpful!
It's already been found in pigs, which is the likely place for it to mutate into a H2H transmissible strain. Fortunately, that was taken seriously and I don't think it's spreading among pigs right now?? I've been trying to stay on top of the news on this but might have missed some things.
It was found on Oahu last month. A duck rescue operation had to put down all their birds 😮💨 They had just had a petting event, and no people became ill as far as we know. A wild duck at a reserve was H1N1+, so yes it seems if they found one there are more cases. I guess we will see this winter.
Now see if we had learned our lesson during COVID, we would be doing some serious contact tracing and such. And we get to go through 2 pandemics at. the. same. time.
The CDC said no person-to-person transmission has been detected and the risk to the general public is low. However, those who work with birds, poultry or cows -- or have recreational exposure to them -- are at higher risk and should take precautions.
Yes and don’t forget they want to start mass deportation which will affect many agricultural workers. Fewer workers=no one to clean farms and processing plants, it’s going to get real, real fast.
But in Red States children--not Brown ones, they'll be deported with their parents--will be available to work.
Labor laws have changed in those states, donchaknow, to encourage child workers.
I wonder how this is happening? Wild bird flocks in people’s backyards? How are people getting access to wild birds and why are they exposing other people
backyard chickens are fairly common; google is throwing numbers between 10-13 million households in the US who keep them as a hobby. beyond that kind of regular human/bird contact, wild birds do randomly die in people's yards and people who don't know better might pick them up bare-handed
Wild. My old boss has chickens but she takes very good care of them and is extremely protective when it comes to others handling them or when they’re sick etc. this is all so wild
La patient was infected with a version of the virus recently found to be spreading in wild birds and poultry in the U.S., as well as found in some human cases in Canada and Washington state, according to the CDC.
This is different than the version of the virus found to be spreading in dairy cows.
Everyone watch Contagion again, please. They first thought that virus was Bird Flu and the citizen response to the outbreak was way better than how we did in real life.

Buy masks. Use hand sanitizer.
Just a fist full of FAFO for all those "muh eggs" voters and people who sat out last election.

Let's all calm down until things actually change.
And they don’t have a clue. (Who)
We’ll end up inside on a lockdown,
All cause a bird had a flu. (Oh)
The Raw Milkers brought back dying of food borne illness.
Institutions can only do so much.
Not human to human, not dairy cow related
Labor laws have changed in those states, donchaknow, to encourage child workers.

Cats are screwed.
That’s how this works, right?
I refuse to click through to sources that have proven to be bastions of fascist depravity and cowardly traitors.
ABC News is such a place.

Traitorous shits through and through.

So why reply then?
No offense towards the individual posting...
All offense too ABC News...
