I never decorate my tree until the 17th of December because growing up we never decorated our tree until December 17th because that's my brother's birthday and my mom didn't want him to feel like Christmas was encroaching on his birthday so even as an adult I don't do it before then
My favourite traditions are unintentionally created. We eat Donair after voting in our household because of one year when the outdoor lineup was subjected to hours of delicious smells. Now it's our celebration of civic duty 😄
We have started several traditions recently. My fav is building something out of gingerbread from scratch. Never did that as a kid but we do it every year now.
My family tradition is to not decorate until the 10th. Because my bro was born on the 9th. And my parents didn't want him to feel like a holiday was more important than he was. Jokes on them though. My bro doesn't really celebrate his birthday. But the tradition persists.
We don't start thanksgiving dinner until there's snacks. We may have all the vegetables set out, but if there's not oreos or something, someone better go out and buy some.
This started because in the 90s we would just give up halfway because we were too hungry to wait for it all to be done
My mom used to cut off the last inch of the christmas ham and throw it away. I asked why and she said that's what her mom used to do. I asked granma about it. She said her pan was too short.

It's an unbreakable chain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Later on my mom said he would wolf it all down in one sitting then complain about indigestion at 3 in the morning.
My sister & I make almond bar cookies specifically on Christmas Eve night every year.
I still think that's a good line to draw, though. You put up Christmas decorations in November, you're WAY too into it.
One Christmas, someone felt like eating burger of all things. (probably me, let's not kid myself)
Bought all the stuff, made everything from scratch and now it's been tradition for a couple of years.
Because dad liked it!
Lol
Can't decorate the tree on an empty stomach!
