I’m in the middle of “Character Limit” and have been reminded about his bizarreness. The desire for a decentralized protocol that no one controls and how Twitter should never have been a company in the first place. He wants a libertarian utopia with no answer to who pays for it.
What I don’t get is that Jack wanted Elmo to takeover Twitter. How do you see what Elmo is doing and fail to reconcile it with how poorly it’s going and how flawed the thesis is?
Kind of wild how “I was good at a handful of technical things and networked well enough to raise vast sums of money and acquired my competition while antitrust regulators were asleep at the wheel” basically describes nearly all of them.
Musk made a bid that was way way higher than fair market value for twitter. The Board of Directors has a duty to maximize shareholder value, selling something for 2x what its worth is the definition of that.
Remember Musk tried to sue to get out from the deal and failed.
Both of them actually work for foreign governments. Saudi Arabia really owns Twitter and a bunch of other things, with other nations also being part owners. The "free market" itself is a big scam and grift. So Jack called up his fellow grifter to get in on the scam - good cop, bad cop.
This is still the funniest thing about BlueSky. Its entire birth was founded on a libertarian theory that completely failed and the guy who funded it was actually surprised. He still can't believe this rule:
"If you're a jerk, I can choose to ignore you or block you."
A joke I heard awhile back: Ayn Rand, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan walk into a bar. They drink tainted alcohol and die because there aren't any regulations.
(end of joke).
me when I create my decentralized hub for people to express their views and opinions without fear of moderation and it turns out 90% of people want to talk about their cats or post pictures of art instead of techbro circle-jerking and being racist
of course the dickhead who let a reactionary boer bastard like musk buy twitter is praising the nazi-filled platform that made 'cis' an account restricting 'hate speech slur'
'free speech' to these dickheads only goes one direction - to the right
"free speech but only in the sense that I can pontificate on ayahuasca trips and the wisdom of the ancient chinese medicine men while also conveniently ignoring actual chinese people without any pushback"
He was annoyed that his utterly stupid tech bro, information wants to be free (but I still get paid), no blocking no moderation ideas were not being received with enough reverence, or indeed any reference at all

It's the marketplace of ideas, Jack. Their ideas sucked and we didn't buy them.
Unfortunately this place only got any publicity for NOT being affiliated with that guy.
Didn’t he try starting a third place, which hasn’t done so well?

Fuckity-bye!
Let's make selfishness wrong again.
(end of joke).

a) bullying billionaires who have actively harmed the rest of us is the right thing to do
b) "nice" in this context means letting them get away with it
b) I did just block you tho
Just not enough to stop being a wanker.
