I feel inadequate to describe a book like this with the right superlatives--I don't want to reduce the book down to one thing in doing so... but I hope Omar El Akkad's One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This will find a large audience.

One day, people will say, “Everyone supported it because we had no way of knowing.” As they now try to pretend was the case with slavery and the Holocaust.
It is wild how many people were full-throatedly supporting Israel from day one. I thought it would at least be controversial when they started bombing hospitals and shit but it was still the popular opinion by far. Humanity keeps disappointing. Anyway, I pre-ordered this book.
I guess I’m used to that. I’ve been saying Israel shouldn’t exist for years. Some people can’t believe anti-zionism and antisemitism are two different things, and zionists basically need them to be the same thing. 🤷🏻♀️
This is such an important part of this endless conflict. There are people I respect on both sides, but it kills me that some of them cannot make allowances for the humanity of the other side, nor the atrocities of their own. It cannot end without that.
I am really trying to understand how this movment got bigger than the Ukranian movment when the proprietor and money can be traced to the same person who attacked Ukraine. To which, it seems, that it worked for him, since Ukraine is no longer talked about.
'Movement'... It's about stopping a genocide, wind your neck in and read the book Jeff is recommending and you'll realise the insane irony of your reply.
My government is giving money to Bibi, how can you believe these things are not interlinked? How can you scoff at people in my country trying to stop this financial support?!
Bibi will not fall because of your government; he needs to be dealt with from within. Assad would not have fallen without the inner resistance groups. You need the people to believe they need not vote for him. Fix yourself; in 2016, when Trump was elected, it was a sign of illness. Fix that first.
I'm not American (as stated already), and very much in favour of my country changing radically. Also sadly I think it's v naive to think Bibis removal will change anything, the country will continue to be an apartheid state. I don't know why you assume we aren't trying to fix ourselves here?!
It's a movement because there is more light on that than on older genocides that are still happening. So anyone would question why this one took the spotlight. Why ppl in america think they can change this more than supplying water, medicine, or rights to their own. Leave the Middle East alone.
Why do I see ppl online give so much of their mental powers, to our reality? Yes 🍉 are being killed, no IDF is not moral, yes iIsrael PM is a psycopath. So what? Do you even see the color of my avater's skin? Can you read the arabic on my turban? Leave your white savor complex at the door.
Ah so I'm not allowed to be upset about mass killing or try and stop my government from funding it because I am a different ethnicity to the people being killed, what kind of insane logic is that?
My country (not US) profits directly from the genocide, I've been outside their factories. I care about the other genocides, most of us do, why do you assume we don't, why do you act w such bad faith!? Could you pls provide me with a ranking so I can denounce the right genocides?
I can't pretend to KNOW what's going on inside other people's minds, nor do I think it's ENTIRELY conscious but this whole time has felt like a lot of people KNOW it's wrong but they want to WAIT until it's "over", until it's too late, to pass judgement. And it's already too late for so many.
He's a sweetie. I still can't believe the first time I met him was *he stood at the back of an epic signing line for my Borne event at Powell's and waited 2 hours to say hi* just so he wouldn't get "skip the cue" ahead of readers.

It's honestly shocking how much power the hasbarists have to drown anti-war voices.
Even in 2003 I didn't see so many institutions cravenly shilling for empire.
But among politicians, pundits and media Israel's crimes against humanity are popular, because they identify with it.

And yes, one day all the people not caring about their murder now will have always opposed the genocide.

And Omar is so nice, too!
We got to do an event together at Powell's, and he was just the nicest, humblest, funniest dude.
