Sometimes I wish I was old enough to have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey with a sense of wonder instead of the sense of punishing dullness it's always brought me when I watch.

They showed it to us in school (!) when I was 10, in 4th grade. (!!) I was far too young to appreciate it and just totally zoned out the entire 2nd half. Not until I read the book 30 years later did I finally get it. But it's still too dull to watch in one sitting.
I love the first half-hour of it but once the film transitions to the space station and HAL's antics, it bores me to tears.
The only Kubrick films I've ever liked are "Lolita" and "A Clockwork Orange". I feel the rest of his films are bloated and boring.

I thought it was weird but liked pretty much got the core story. Reading the book much later was great for the details.

I revisited a number of years later and it became one of my favorites. It's weird how that works out at times.
