It’s because of the starter packs. You can follow a lot of people at once. Every new person is searching for its community. That’s why it growing so fast.
So far a place where you can share opinions etc. without hatred, racism and bazillion bots hammering my timeline with advertisements or misinformation I don't need to see.
Sadly, that will change over time like everywhere else.
Definitely a place where you do not have to start from zero. Also, by all accounts, the rate of (constructive) interactions is much higher than on X, so 10,000 followers here probably give the same level of engagement as 100,000 or so followers on X.
