'had had' truly the most miserable unit of sentence construction in the english language. I feel like I failure every time I need to write this. but sometimes you just can't help it

i saw “had had” in a James Baldwin novel I read recently, and it helped me come to a place of acceptance with it. like, even writers of his caliber have sometimes needed to settle for “had had”
hate writing words. if only i had had the chance to know better then than i know now, then i wouldnt wish to go back to when i went and chose to be a writer, and besides; theres so much embarrassing stuff ive written i wouldnt have had to too.
I remember getting into a disagreement with my girlfriend over it and had to break down an entire sentence to explain why it had to be written that way lol.
It's truly awful and I want to die a bit every time I have to write something like that. Unrelated my auto correct trying to turn this into a very different conversation.
same author is responsible for, after a running thread of "who is Beautiful Pippa From The Control Room going to shack up with? my money's that guy Peter with the bad acne...",
There's an old 'Great: The Show' bit about a guy whose last name is Sexhaver and a bunch of ladies fawning over him being like "everyone loves a man who Has Had..."
- that's what contractions are for
- most of the time when you feel compelled to write "that that" or "had had" you can just write it once. "She had had enough" and "she had enough" essentially convey the same thing
it's one of those situations where I will always shorten the first "had" whenever possible. "Kallie'd had trouble" doesn't read well but at least you can READ it.

James, while John had had "had", had had "had had"; "had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.

MOST "is, is"es you see are just bad grammar, but the rare "is, is" IS correct.
Unrelated but reminded me of this

She had enough: this just happened, the line was recently crossed,
She had had enough: it’s been a while, that line was crossed previously, you started off in the red zone and it’s not looking good
use other words! there is no rule that states you must write this. this is what your thesaurus is for.
