Y'know, I kinda miss the days when removing bloatware meant "removing the pre-installed candy crush as well as the scammy anti virus that doesn't work" and not "do research on if this program technically involved with drivers is REALLY necessary because it should not be taking up that much RAM"

If they release a full steamOS version for PC, I think I might have to convert and be one of those nerds.

BUt yeah, honestly there were multiple points at college where I'd help a friend out with something on a computer and have to resist immediately going to uninstall stuff they clearly never used.
Over time they stuck in more and more crap to the point it uses way too much ram.
SO WORTH just buying your own OS License Key, if needed.
Use DISM to backup all drivers first, just in case Windows Update can’t automatically find any that you need.
But like.
Everyone knows Linux exists. Going "lol just install Linux" is not a solution nor is it getting at the issue.
But.
The issue is a capitalism one, and one of a lack of government regulations.
If it's not Windows with Bloatware, its Apple. If those two didn't exist, it might be another company.
Because of the capitalist system we're in.
Or simply one that isn't created by old white men. Like come on.
And companies KNOW this.
This post is blowing up, which is a-okay, I think it just means we all feel this pain lol.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, I might as well share my ko-fi as well.
Lenovo execs hate this one simple way to bring your ram usage down 10%
Got curious so did some digging! Apparently there's a program called "PredatorSense" that's the similar alternative, though you might need to change the folder name to "NitroSense" which implies acer added some things to get around people needing alternatives.
Depending on your laptop you may still have some pieces of lenovo spying on you, as I think whatever lets their 2in1s allow pens has its own little data collector.
Asking for myself... Not a friend... ;)
It's intended for anything that has the Lenovo Vantage bullshit that's taking up so much fucking ram.
Still trying to figure out how to deal with some of the other stuff lenovo snuck in, but the script Giancarlo shared might help with that.
There's also the option of not having either, but for those who don't want to have to worry about their fn keys and whatnot without digging through drivers, it seems to be a solid option!

So, some of us weren't even alive for Windows m.e.
That we returned to dark times is proof that the arc of history isn't bent towards justice.

Like, no. I don't need you to do performance metrics or note what games I'm playing or waste resources listening to hotkeys I'll never press. I just need you to display graphics.
Don't you know they only make money ONCE from selling you a product!? It's like you don't even CARE about their quarterly earnings!
I wouldn’t be surprised if one day it went there. Thankfully 7zip lets us extract the contents of the installers to access the raw inf files and their dependencies.
Or clean installer with all UEFI bootloader partitions
and clean drivers, with no need of Manufacturer bloatware installers.
Something universal, and quicker than installing linux.
Thanks
To add to 'sunken' costs are a lack of complete compatibility: OpenOffice (for example) will open MS Office documents, but often with layout and font errors. That's fairly elementary.
Sure, go ahead create a 50+GB database in hidden DTP directories and run the system completely out of storage!
Multiple cases of this last week 🤦♂️ Can't uninstall fast enough
