Animals that are otherwise intelligent can have odd quirks when it comes to certain dangers. My cocker spaniel Mandy was the smartest dog I ever had, knew hundreds of words and phrases, but I had to hold tight to her leash when walking her bc she had no street smarts and would lunge at passing cars.
Late at night you hear kitty in the flame, “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them”
Same in this house. One of my cats insanely loves the smell of rubbing alcohol (I use to clean), and she also acts like she is high on catnip from the smell of my morning coffee. Tries to rip the mug out of my hand and rolls all over the floor. What they say about cats and curiosity. 😑
Well, then, my cat must be an oddball. I see a lot of cats under blankets or wrapped up in them. Luna has no use for blankets whatsoever. She does not like to be covered up. Must be something in her background I don't know about, or maybe it's just that her black fur absorbs the heat too much, idk.
It appears it's not just a few cats who are fascinated by fireplace flames. Some of the videos online are, frankly, concerning. (As in people posting and asking if the cat is OK.)
I guess it's not just moths to a flame.
I had a furry ki that I had to keep moving away from the fire. They laid down so close that I was afraid their hair was going to catch on fire. He had renal failure and was always very cold. I put a bed in front of the fire at just the right distance to keep him warm and comfy.
I’m a little reflexively uncomfortable around fires due to some childhood experiences. My neighbor’s house is was set on fire *twice* and I almost died in a boat fire.
But I was amenable to using the fireplace until I got my two babies. No chance now.
My first cat, Boris, didn't walk into fire, but he DID roll around in cold ashes, transforming from a tuxedo cat to a grey/white cat, and leaving Family Circus style footprints showing his route through the apartment.
Not attending the State of the Union to listen Trumb gaslight US is the minimum we expect from Democrats; attending is complying and giving credibility to the incredible.
And it’s starting to sound like Democrats are going to fail US again.
Pass this on if you agree.

My Choco comes running over when I'm sitting in front of the woodstove adding fuel. Then he curls in my lap,and we enjoy some "us time" for a little bit.
No, it’s the strangest thing. He just cranes his neck to get closer to the flames. I remain convinced that he is, in fact, receiving instructions from the Underworld.
It's not unusual for a cat to get right close to a fire. I've seen them do it. They love to be close to a heat source. They also obviously don't have a big enough brain to understand the dangers of an open fire! Sorry, I love cats but no they're not smart! 🤪
My Dad’s friend had a white cat who would climb into the fireplace when the embers were still warm and walk around black for days. No door, stacked objects, or chastising would stop her.
I have it on good authority that whiskers and open flames aren’t a friendly pairing. The ghost of my beloved OG cat, Grey Kitty, wants Lily to know that it doesn’t smell so hot when the whiskers get singed. This also goes for eyebrow whiskers.
Is this like...do all cats do this? Cuz my friend's cat had tried climbing into the fireplace one time, and by putting cardboard over it she tricked him into thinking it was just a wall

Second time? You have an unhealthy fascination with fire.
Poor Doogy.
My brother had a dog that would gorge themselves on cicadas so in the summer he couldn't let the dog roam free despite living in the country.
OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! WHY!!?
We all have days
Sometimes we know that we are strong enough to wield the light, if only we could touch
Other times we know only we are wise enough to comprehend the light, if only we were closer
And in darker times…
It’s okay, Lily
We all have days
Trust the doors
If you understand what I’m saying.
We had to give up candles for a long time.
I guess it's not just moths to a flame.
Just like her dad.

OOH DEAR!
Found a better system and no longer have to do that.
