There is literally no rule that says you have to write every word in order. You could write a whole novel backwards and no one will ever know unless you tell them. Get the words down in whatever order works best for you.

My scripts usually look like Swiss cheese while I’m writing them 🤔
I know what the major beats and goal posts will be while I’m writing, so sometimes (most times) I’ll bounce around the script and find out what goes between those markers as I’m writing and fleshing out the story 📝🎬🎥☺️
That process actually worked for me in a work process that I couldn't learn from top to bottom. I reversed it and I was error-free immediately. I called it zipping the jacket 🦋

The writer, of course, should reign supreme, wielding absolute freedom to conjure their brilliance in whatever obscure, self-indulgent way they deem fit. After all, who cares if anyone understands it? Comprehension is so overrated.
I tried this once because there was a really cool idea I thought of and wanted to get it down. Then trying to write *to* that spot became such a chore.
No, no, the 7 headed ostrich metaphor for the cycle of life and death can wait, describe the MCs breakfast first. That'll be your treat later.
Another fun thing in some screenwriting software is the ability to drag'n'drop sluglines from a sidebar. It's like a jigsaw puzzle of continuity and dramatic flow.
On 18 July 1874, the very last line of Carroll’s Snark tragicomedy came into his head while out on a walk at Guildford: “For the Snark was a Boojum, you see”.
True dat, good sir. I actually wrote the ending of the current screenplay I'm writing after only having Act 1 finished because I knew without a doubt what the final scenes would be and needed to get them on paper.
When I helped folk premiere operas/NewMusic, I got passed around because I was kinda guaranteed to make silk purses out of even sows' ears
Now that I write, I like to think I cn give notes to make anything better... except a blank page
Getting It Down is all that really matters. Rewrites are a thing
My father (a retired English professor) always drilled that into my brother and me. Just get the words DOWN for starters. THEN take your time making it make sense!
Sometimes I just write the parts I feel like writing first because I'll get more done that way. As long as I have an outline I can go in any order I want.
As I understand it, the team behind _Crazy Ex-Girlfriend_ wrote the last scene of the last episode, and the last line, before they wrote the pilot. They always knew exactly where the story was going, which is how they stuck the landing.
I’ve had directors see how I make the first cut of a movie, and literally freak out. To an outsider, my process looks like gobbledygook. But it looks fine once I’m done.
How are you this amazing? Second question: How do you feel about fan fiction? P.S.: When I write, I don't approach it that way. I always write like it's going to be produced (I write screenplays).
1) I have a great wife who insists upon it and 2) I’m fine with it. Often writing fan fiction is the beginning of writing your own, but any writing you enjoy is worth it.
I’m not writing a novel or screenplay, but I do write for a living. I keep having to tell myself that I don’t have to create a perfect draft right away. I can come back to it later and revise it. Thanks for posting these reminders!

First came across this idea in "The Fieldstone Method" by Jerry Weinberg.

We do not control how or when we are inspired better to run with it than stew over a part that is not yet speaking to you.
Thus, 18 July 2024 was the 150th anniversary of that line. There are two more important anniversaries ahead of us: https://snrk.de/150th-snark-anniversaries/.

I think it's when you double the dutch that you start to lose people.
