Whenever I see a youtuber, streamer or even person here say 'There's no good games anymore', I feel like I'm losing my mind. I am DROWNING in amazing games that I struggle to split my time between.
If you're out of stuff to play, tell me what you vibe with and I'll help you find something fresh.

This means that it arguably has one of the most minority-filled castings in media
tetrans! 💀
Truly one of the quotes of all time
I'll try my best to help you find stuff. In the meantime, check out my Hidden Gems list on PC Gamer! Links to more at the bottom!
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/steam-summer-sale-2024-hidden-gems/
Every game on the list is stuff I've basically already played already with a different title. Execution will be different but not worth the price to me. I'm only buying like 4 games a year now

So I introduced them to the Rune Factory series, which is EXACTLY THAT ALL IN ONE PLACE. They even added gay romance/marriage/adoption specifically for the English version of the most recent one.
But it plays at a perfect 60fps on Steam Deck.
One just tried swooping in to declare Dragon Age ruined by Those People, and their profile was 'Oppressed because I'm white'.
Nope. Not dealing with that.
I think with BluSky we've been given an opportunity to start anew, and I have a zero tolerance policy for bigots of any kind here, because I don't want to waste that. At some point, probably there will be a loophole here, but at least for now it's a good environment :)
i have a good laugh before ignoring those guys still not playing any games
Oh, or the time people couldn't decide if Baldur's Gate 3 was "woke" because it had representation, but it was also *good*.
I also like magic users.
Open worlds appeal to me
I really enjoy the Elder Scrolls franchise. To give a concrete example.
Btw what's your current hot game you would recommend?
Currently playing ready or not but there isnt much replayability to a game that hasnt been updates in a year and a half
Though ive heavily enjoyed red dead redemption 2.
Once you look past Triple A games, there's literally dozens of amazing games being released every single day. It's just lazy.
My backlog is so big I can't even finish it in my lifetime.
Granted, they won't rival AA(A) games in terms of scope and fidelity. But indies tend to offer a unique spin on genres while many established studios nowadays like to play it safe to fulfill commercial expectations.
Indie multiplayer FPS: Battlebit Remastered
Strategy: Against the Storm, Cataclismo, Manor Lords (and there's a fuckload of indie management games)
Metroidvanias represent a relatively small segment of indie games.

We've traded authenticity for convenience and are stupefied when we find ourselves in mires of our own making.
But I never found that compelling. You can be one of thousands streaming Minecraft, or you can introduce your audience to new, exciting games that would've flown under their radar.
I'm also convinced that there is value in doing niche content. There's an — albeit smaller — audience for everything. It may not pay the bills, but that's not what all content creators are about.
Especially, since it disproportionately affects the representation and/or self-expression of marginalized people.
Same thing with AAA games.
Unreal and Unity3D killed game dev. Very few people even try to experiment with low-level mechanics.
Legit have like 130 hours in the Beamdog remaster of Baldur's Gate, let alone how much I played the original as a kid.
First Person Shooter really didnt aged well in my opinion but Human Revolution was great!
Its legit one of my favourite games of all time, but I can understand why it would be hard to get into if you didn't grow up with it lol.
Other times it's stuff I randomly pick up on socials, review sites, or while watching other creators.
And for fan game makers who make it to making their own ips I think my favorite example is spark the electric jester 1-3
And yeah, the Mega Man scene is nuts. I did a little playtesting on Make A Good Mega Man Level 3.
I like chill games like House Flipper, Sims type games but also Far Cry/Just Cause adventuring but don’t like the need to go around killing every enemy you encounter. Survival and base building also fun. Ideas?
Just something to play to chill and relax to
Have you tried 'SIGNALIS'? Very much inspired by 'Silent Hill'.
I often joke that while I have conquered realistic levels of body dysmorphia, I will forever feel like I need four to six additional arms to be able to play everything that looks insanely well designed and written.
Cheers to you 😇
Right now I got
PS4
Spider-Man 2018
The Last Of Us 2
Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War
NS
Arceus
Pokemon Sword
Mario Wonder
I am considering WWE 2K24 as one of my next games to buy but who knows?
Kid me couldn't have dreamed of the incredibly rich & affordable ecosystem people have at their fingertips right now.
Pokemon legends arceus pulled me back in waiting for the new legends game.
Other then that, the themes of Death Stranding hit pretty hard. The directors cut should still be on sale. Not for everyone but if you give it a genuine try you won't regret it I promise.

The Wizardry remake. Dragon Ruins, Touhou: Artificial Dream In Arcadaia, Potato Flowers In Full Bloom, Infinite Adventures, Legend Of Grimrock 1/2, Etrian Odyssey 1-3 remakes, Islands of the Caliph, Vaporum, Starcrawlers, Dawn of the Ashen Queen
I’ve also heard great things about the mod Fallout: London.
I'm looking for a game where the gameplay revolves around moving freely in a 3d environment.
If possible with upgrades, minimum narration and on pc.
Really addictive and immersive.
Got anything please?
There's so many amazing games out there, I feel spoiled for choice tbh
Astroneer is on my to-play pile. Breathedge, The Forest (1/2) and Abiotic Factor are all Subnautica-equivalent survival sandboxes with story
Valheim's third-person, V Rising is isometric & more actiony
Mobile Suit Baba is a direct parody of Into The Breach and a great game in its own right.
Othercide is a pretty tight squad tactics game in that vein, with a big focus on learning and manipulating enemy AI

Equip a bear with an assault rifle and get nuked by a generically engineered little girl. Like Caves Of Qud for creatures of pure chaos.

But there's a hundred times more games than there used to be so you've basically got no excuse if you're willing to actually look around.
i’m burnt out of splatoon right now because im struggling to complete side order so i need something new to play while i wait to attempt it again

As for Stray...if you're after a 3D narrative platformer/action-adventure, Solar Ash or Journey or Okami? Depends what you liked about Stray

Deal ends tomorrow.

It just got a bunch of weirdos yelling about it having pride flags or two guys holding hands.
Any suggestions for a deckbuilding game that's not a roguelike? Stuff like MtG Shandalar, Culdcept, or Steamworld Quest.
most people rely on mass marketing and influencers to know about a game
Base building and survival firstmost
Colony sim/Life sim secondmost
I already know of quite a few, I may end up just getting recommended the ones I know, but I'm expanding my options before the Christmas sales if at all possible.
Lol sorry my dudes that gaming can't transcend time and space
Barrier to entry for gamedev is getting lower, and people think its easy money so a lot of people don't put in any effort...
Feel free to ignore too lmao
Figure out what works for you and it'll be much easier to have a great time.
Same for retro JRPGs. Check out Crystal Project for one that's light on story but wildly open and flexible. Horizons Gate is another that may vibe with you.
Personally I don't think there's much like Disco Elysium, probably because the developers were more writers than traditional game designers.
I would second some others with Citizen Sleeper, but it's a bit more abstract.
But Disco Elysium is your jam, that's inspring a LOT of indies. Check of Sovereign Syndicate now and watch Esoteric Ebb, Gamedec, Glasshouse & XXX NIGHTSHIFT
so it'll suck when it ends, but at least this will definitely inspire some good works, and I can go back to playing other story games🙏🏽
I will check out all of these! Very thrilled to see more Disco-inspired games coming out 😊 Thank You!
Yeah, that's a top tier game. Cannot wait for the sequel.
They are not the same. Not even close. Don't doubt your experience.
And yes, wilderness camping with your horse pal is the best!! 🦌
But also they're decently written adventures with kingdom or army-scale elements.
But Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair is about a transgender witch in modern-day supernatural Toronto. How's THAT for a deep cut?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1555650/HEXCRAFT_Harlequin_Fair/
meanwhile steam is like
Oh yeah, another wild one: Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum. Your unethical handler is horny for corporate malfeasance, unbound by gender

Also there's a free expansion that continues the story after the main story, during the following winter.
https://oleandergarden.itch.io/sigil
I have a freeware game for you, then! 'Iji' is about you being imbued with nanomachines to survive an alien invasion and you now must convince the aliens to leave. Be peaceful or bring destruction; the choice is yours. Really good and deep and I'd pay money for this.
It's crazy stupid sentiment that only makes sense if you ignore everything and just focus on AAA releases
I saw Shadow Blasters on Genesis today at the used store and I've always wanted to play it, so worth the $50 for me. Plus old games prob won't depreciate
My top 5 (non-driving) Steam games, by playtime:
- Project Zomboid
- Insurgency: Sandstorm
- Motorsport Manager
- Fallout New Vegas
- Kerbal Space Program
Any suggestions?
Zomboid is at the top of my list, because it's basically the opposite of that.

Has anything been released in the last 10 years that'll scratch the MGS3 style stealth sction itch?
Or god, a game that integrates base building goals into non-base building gameplay as well as Peace Walker? Please?
Love roguelikes and athmospheric indie, but I can be sold just about anything with a sci-fi setting. Any smaller games worth checking out?
You will want to check out 'Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor'. It basically out-'Assassin's Creed's 'Assassin's Creed' with its dynamic Nemesis system putting the enemy army in a constant state of dynamic, organic flux.
Because old games are still there and are still good, go play mario 3 or something.
As for Destiny 2? Witchfire is in early access and single-player only, but takes Destiny-style combat and small zones in fun directions
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1584090/Touhou_Mystias_Izakaya/
Great game though, and you don't *need* knowledge of the Touhou series for it, but it may help you guess what characters want in pickier orders if you know them.

Finding games to play is super easy, finding the time to play any of them is orders of magnitude more difficult.
switch or Steamdeck.
And dont force you to join a capitalistic corporation like EVE.
Or are bad like Starfield.
If you want an absolutely perverted level of freedom & granular simulation, X4: Foundations just lets you do whatever the hell.
But it's also quite generic, the ship types get boring pretty quickly.
But it's not a bad game.
The X series is very special. The type of game you have to learn. I couldn't get into it. And I tried. Glad for all people who play X.
FTL was GREAT.
Outer Wilds is one of the best games I will ever play (and everyone should)
Kerbal Space Program is a great simulator.
Maybe I just want to be a space cargo pilot. Or bounty hunter. Or both.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/551620/Approaching_Infinity/
I have a rule of not playing Early Access games. Different reasons.
But both will go to my wishlist, I didn't know them.
Hope they'll come out soon.
Thanks for broadening my horizon!
The current closest are
EVE (not really viable as solo player)
Elite: Dangerous (good game)
Everspace 2 (decent but generic)
No Man's Sky (decent, but no emotions for me)
You know. I want Freelancer 2.

EXCEPT FOR UNICORN OVERLORD BECAUSE A PC GAMER RAN OVER VANILLAWARE'S DOG IN 1990 AND NOW WE WILL ALL PAY SOBSOBSOB
A lot of devs have shown massive improvements relative to their first outing + it's becoming more common to see people nailing it on their first commercial release.

Iirc, I wanted to give the demo a try but at the time I was quite busy. Putting it on my Wishlist.
That said, the game does look very interesting so if I try to dip my toes into the genre again, I will give the series a try.
And then it gives you a HARDER mystery.
Really good fun with friends.
