I was lucky enough to see this on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Not to this degree, but if you moved about in the water at night, the water would glow.
This occurs because of the organisms in the ocean not the ocean itself and has been chronicled as far back as Aristotle. It has nothing to do with climate change.
This happens in the Gippsland Lakes where I live. I was lucky to see it happen a few years ago. This photographer does a great job capturing the event 👏
I’ve only experienced bioluminescent beings twice - once in a kayak, once on a sailboat — but it’s enough to make you believe in magic. Well, science, but what’s more magical than science?
I seriously wish I were there right now. ESPECIALLY now. I'd give anything to be in a country where my rights and my husband's rights would both be protected. I'd gie anthing to be in a place where the environment will be protected.
I swam in this in Canada once. Our hands left beautiful trails in the water. What was crazy though is no-one knew knew what bioluminescence was, so we couldn't quite believe what we were seeing.
Saw this once about 25 yrs ago on the coast of North Carolina one night (most likely Carolina beach) & my mil later explained what it was & how she’d seen it many times livin( stationed) in Hawaii
We've had the pleasure to kayak through similar in NZ, our local beach has some bioluminescence (far from this intensity) and glow worms, it's a trippy sight ♥️

Amazing Pic, what exposure time did you use? Makes me miss my Nikon D7100.
It's cool as to see, as your paddles dip into the water, and the turbulence behind the boat

Had the opportunity to swim with green sea turtles around the Perhentian Islands, amazing to see how effortlessly they glide through the water
Must be so impressive to see then illuminated ♥️
Als kind zag ik dit voor het eerst in Zeeland, zó mooi.
