several governments banning it would probably be the only thing to have an effect. people only stopped using tik tak momentarily once it stopped working completely. addiction is powerful
I left that cesspit after 17yrs on it to switch to BS, and the relative calm and quiet domain it is today reminds me of Twitter in the lovely early days.
So I’m enjoying it and promoting Bluesky to others, and they’re arriving … eventually, usually after saying “X is a complete sewer now” 😏
it sucks bc here in the ytpmv community theres a fair amount of them using bluesky but the other half seems pretty set on "bsky sucks" so i feel obligated to crosspost so that my friends actually see it
I've been off for months now, and Meta too. Wild to me people still use those apps. Like, I kinda get Amazon but why yall still using chat apps that just make oligarchs rich. Lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was gonna leave for like the last few months but honestly the straight up Nazi Salute did it for me, even though it was already clearly garbage for a long time now.
yeah i really do not get just HOW people are still staying on twitter, its just nonstop ragebait and actual evil shit. It actively just mentally drains me being on twitter
Some of those people will never move. It would be important to have more prominent political, academic, and journalistic figures here to change the balance of power between platforms, but the road ahead is still pretty long.
I have no idea why they stay, but they are few in number, the far right pundits like the idiotic Kash Patel and the creep for Christ Charley Kirk dominate "X". And they can keep it.
After over 14 years of being on Twitter (or what was of it, really), I basically started to go full cold turkey from the site and stopped using it entirely. Nowadays, I just have my account up still, but privated and occasionally check. No retweets, tweets, likes, nothing. I'm here full-time now.
Most that are staying have too big of egos & they can’t let go
“I have 10k followers I don’t want to lose “
Ok … sure 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄you don’t want to lose 10k of your close personal friends but will stay even when they now know it’s NAZI owned 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
These things take time. Plus Twitter does incentivize a lot more arguments and flame wars which is sadly good for engagement. I'm guilty of it. Plus there are lots of bots there.
We have to condition ourselves into realizing that more likes doesn't mean better. It's peaceful here and that's good.
I came on Monday. Never supported him but have been on Twitter since 2009, felt like I was abandoning my diary. But I can’t be on there after what he did 🤢
It reminds me of the whole moving from Windows to Linux thing. It's amazing if you can fully migrate but there's some things that's only on Windows since its the dominant OS. Or how it's hard to have a true YouTube alternative bc YouTube is so huge.
Dang. There's actually still a lot of posting going on (my following feed is SOOOO active), I just assume your friend circle doesn't post much here.
Which in that case... I recommend following a feed of your favorite subjects and following the people that interest you.
The curation algorithm or whatever is awful, you run out of good posts in 2 minutes so it sends you liberal slop. And so many followers i get on here are not fucking real
It's definitely slower than Twitter, most likely due to the Discover algorithm being Shit and you can just run out of posts on the following tab without rapidly swiping if you've been scrolling long enough throughout the day
there are still so many amazing artists on twitter and there's so many developments that people only report on god damned twitter, it sucks. but, with bluesky gaining traction, it feels like we have a real chance of finally having a site owned by the people. i'm at least dedicating myself to here.
i feel the same way, and the problem is even worse with fedi, especially since it has no kind of discovery algorithm unlike bluesky (plus the fact it has a much smaller userbase to begin with)
I suggest that we no longer urge people to leave Twitter, as it appears those who remain are the reason we left to begin with. Let them stew in their own juices.
I feel making the japanese users finally flee to other sites will finally kill the damn place hopefully. whether from the japanese government banning it or through something stupid.
Their numbers. They have become the very people they claim to be fighting against. They feed off it just like the media and Sun Tan Spray No.9. Without the attention, what, who are they?
dont you post on twitter. stop posting on there, private your account, make your twitter bio a bluesky link, nothing will happen if people keep posting to it and using it.
I tell friends everyday to leave. Friends that hate elon and are far left. I think people are attached to their social media journal. It was REALLY hard for me to delete ig off my phone cause it's the story of my late teenage-adult life. I think people have become attached.
If Mini-Mustacheman doing a fk’ing Zieg Heil at a gawddamned Fanta Fascist rally isn’t enough nothing is. They’re mush-brained and too far gone to be helped. Maybe once these absurd and dangerous laws affect them they’ll wake up. I doubt it though.
I JUST asked that very same question not 5 minutes ago. I left the Twitter AND FB practically at the same time. The ONLY reason I can think of is that they worry about losing their precious followers.
People too hung up on the followers they gained …I had three platforms and dropped em all
Not huge followings really and I loved tiktok-just couldn’t do it . The govt shut down an app-Well I just got the hell out….nazi run social media is not good social media…hopefully they flee soon
bluesky just doesnt have as much funny and the discovery feed feels a lot... worse? like i get a lot of posts that aren't at all interesting to me compared to twitter
Some people just can't be bothered. Some don't care. And others have spent over a decade on the platform and the idea of starting over fresh (or just walking away) isn't appealing.
To be clear, I'm not saying this justifies staying. I nuked my X account a while ago. But Meta stuff is a little harder for me, personally. Trying to work up to it.
What's the motivation to join Threads now? Anyone who wants to spread MAGA bullsh*t can just stay on Twitter. And anyone who wants to avoid all that noise can just come here.
I don't understand, elon aside, the app is horrible to use now, it's just constant rage bait and people being mean to each other in the comments. I geniunely couldn't spend more that 5 min on it anymore. I do believe that eventually people will migrate but it's crazy that it's taking this long
I don't think that's necessarily true, I think that negativity can definitely be really addicting though. These apps have figured out the perfect formula of keeping you just mad enough to keep interacting but will also throw you smth funny to calm you and keep the cycle going. It's wild
I don’t get the appeal of still using twitter now, it’s just been growing into a bigger shithole since 2020 and everyone just keeps acting like it’s a great app to use
it's scary how people will go "too much of a bother" when the website is plagued with the most putrid dogshit you ever seen, they'll consume the most rancid ass far right propaganda slop as long as it's convenient and it genuinely concerns me
We need to focus on media and government moving over. Get that and the rest will follow. Start telling institutions you expect them on sites that aren’t 4chan in a dress.
Have you not already “switched away” from “X” (no longer Twitter)? What’s keeping you there? Do us all a favor and just leave X if you haven’t already. I hope you’re successful in getting your fellow mental midget followers to leave too.
I haven't used Twitter since the Nazi bought it, but his seig heil is what finally got me to make an account over here. I mostly use Reddit and with hundreds of subreddits banning Twitter links in the last couple days I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more people start migrating here too.
Elon openly sieg heiling in public was my final straw. I'm not deleting the account just to keep my username from being stolen by a copycat or hacker, but I won't be posting there anymore. Already deleted the app from my phone.

Twitter shadowbanning anything Bluesky related doesn't help either
I lost 100 followers in one month just having my Bsky handle in my bio and my mutuals thought I disappeared from the internet
Which reminds me, after his salute, I gotta post that Captain America punching Hitler thing.
I want Canada to make a law and limit our exposure to American poison. ☠️
Hats off to pros with large followings that abandon the "others", that is a difficult thing to do and deserves accolades.
For everybody else...
Oh, wait....
“I have 10k followers I don’t want to lose “

For some people, it would take the Total annihilation of Twitter's servers. That's the amount of attachment they have.
I think there’s too much fascination with it. It won’t happen IMO until people are apathetic about it. I don’t see that comin for a long while.
Install it and use it on your following page... it'll automatically detect who has a bluesky account, it even allows you to quickly follow on bluesky on the same page as well!

I would much rather a smaller community that I enjoy interacting with than a larger one that wants me dead. They can stay on their platform.
But you need to follow a lot a people to get more interesting.
I guess the Brazil ban made a lot of people try and establish themselves here which helped a bunch
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
for comparison, twitter has 611 million monthly active users, so the change is VERY noticeable
there are like 1 million active posters on bluesky, so it is indeed completely empty in contrast
But that requires effort.
This was a monumental help:

No; inertia.
"oh it's too empty here" OF COURSE IT FEELS THAT WAY, YOU'RE SO USED TO BE FLOODED WITH BOTS!
Not huge followings really and I loved tiktok-just couldn’t do it . The govt shut down an app-Well I just got the hell out….nazi run social media is not good social media…hopefully they flee soon
algorithm isn't as addictive i guess
as long as twitter still has posters posting what people want, those people will have no reason to leave if theyre unphased by current happenings
Like is it actually worth staying on a site ran by a guy like THAT?
There's zero reason to use Threads, now that Zuck wants to turn it into Twitter Too.
