If you can, you should buy an EV right now. Especially one that can provide backup power.
Thats all Rivians, Kias, and Hyundais, the Leaf, the ID4, the Lightning, and a few others. No Teslas or Lucids except the CT. I doubt there are a lot of cybertruck buyers here, though.

Ramcharger is supposed to be 'early 2025' still. Hyundai Santa Fe is also having a series-hybrid version. but they don't even have their PHEV one out yet.
I own both a C40 and an XC40, I like them but they aren't the most efficient, but can be picked up for half price with around 16K miles.
Here is my breakdown

Even trickier is how to address different audiences. Folks like yourself may happily road trip an EV, but its a dealbreaker for many.
And if you're already familiar with EV ownership & you know that you can happily do EV road trips, then you may certainly disregard this flowchart.
I hear you and I'm in the same boat. Hope something changes for you for the better.
But we don't allow the import of Chinese EV's, or at least not without a 100% tariff.
We *COULD* afford them if govt would get out of the way.
worth it
I did end up installing a 220V outlet to give me the option to charge faster but I didn't actually need to

Electronic Fuel Injection became common in the early 1980s Not a lot of 45+ year old vehicles left on the road.
1) EV batteries are almost completely recyclable. When a pack goes bad, it's usually only a small number of thousands of cells. They can be rebuilt or good cells removed and used for other batteries.
2) The lack of regulation around lithium and cobalt is no different than any other vile historical gold rush, from oil to blood diamonds. The issue as always is profiteering, not batteries.
Other than understanding this is the business model for all manufacturing.
End of use/end of product life isn’t even a consideration. I
t’s going to be “someone else’s problem”. Guess who?
Rented a 2025 Toyota Camry hybrid and absolutely loved it!
Sigh. About ready to go buy a horse.
I’ve saved thousands over the years.

I can recommend https://richsolar.com for good panels. I've used them for years on my off-grid vehicle and they work well.
https://Ipowerqueen.com for batteries
You really have to draw a line sometimes...
Elon deserves to fail, there are promising Aerospace startups deserving of support...
I realise there are smart people working for Elon but they're not good people if they're using their skills to enrich a Nazi
Can't even imagine how much it would cost for the whole country.

Got the husband a polestar, though.

Respectfully.
The problem is that removing the $7,000 federal incentive will have a major impact on new EV purchases.
Not to mention the rescinding billions allocated for a network of chargers, which honestly is due to Biden's overbearing regulations.
Love my car but got f*d by our sales rep thinking we'd be eligible for the subsidy.
Buy a car, smh.
Some recalls involved structural stresses and faulty onboard computers.
So not "all"
I feel for the people who were sold the dream and bought the nightmare, but it’s so on track for the things Musk claims as achievements that are absolutely pathetic in execution.
The base price is now 80k.
The premise behind it is good tho

also, check out the jackeries.
probably by the time i can afford one, it will be too late.

And honestly most people way over-estimate how many times they will really need a long-range vehicle. For most, the EV is great for at least 95% of their driving needs.
We have a 2022 Leaf too, but it doesn’t have that capability. Can still use it to charge phones and stuff like that though.
QVC has them
The US is absolutely a capitalist hellscape though. It's not your fault though it's the failed system
Got a cheap bolt with 12k miles for 17k OTD.
Base trim ofc but insane value and no more oil changes
It's brutal out there, keep your chin up. I just wanted people to know that an EV doesn't have to be a 50k purchase like I thought it was
Look past the clickbait and find the cheaper EVs. It's a buyer's market for used EVs right now. We just paid $29k for a $50k '24 EV.
Or, just just do as you're told and complain.
If you're spending more than $40/month on gas (very likely), swapping vehicles actively and immediately saves you money.
Do note that Leaf battery swaps can now be had for around 3-5K which is comparable to major engine/transmission work in a gas car though. So it's not THAT bad
I know you said "if you can," but it's like saying "if you can, run a mile in 3:45."
Precious few of us can even consider it.
SHUT. THE. ECONOMY. DOWN. NOW.
Money (greed, indifference to “others”) is what created this. Money is the only way out. It’s the only thing that people in an actual position to influence care about.
renters assistance programs or telling people how to find a food bank or church might actually help someone
If your advice applies to so few people and is this tone deaf I’d argue at some point it’s just stupid to have said it man
