Yes, an extremely effective and cunning one at that.
Alternatively, he's testing how well the US could handle being a pariah state with limited trade when he starts a war with Canada to annex it or the EU over Greenland.
I only know the barest outlines of the degrowth philosophy and even I immediately clocked it as wrong. Like, no, crashing the economy is not a long-term stable way to reduce consumption. It also doesn’t change the fundamental incentive towards growth our economy is predicated on
Heard something this morning that worried me: as US cedes its economic dominance to China and its population grows richer they will eat more beef. But China prefers to source feed from Brazil, which tears down the Amazon to grow grain. Perhaps Canada could sell grain to China instead but …
Incompetent Fascism is hard to distinguish from degrowth/accelerationism, but the key difference is that the leader and his cronies actually make a shitload of money the whole time.
He's doing what Putin did to Russia in the 2000s. Seizing a bit more control than is legal over the economy and the government weakens the country overall, but not to the point where it collapses. The result is, the autocrat is richer and more powerful than everyone else, and the country hobbles on.
This the second time today that I have heard this idea floated. Given Trump’s distain for free market capitalism, I get the reasoning. Nevertheless, degrowth theory (as explained by Wikipedia) seems largely woke, and certainly way over Trump’s ability to comprehend.
47 is secretly an employee of The Heritage Foundation. 🐙 see my pinned. He is guided and directed by Project 2025, Leonard Leo or his Team of Christian Natlists. The secondary players are Russell Vought and a few other writers of the book, and Alex Azor, who funded the 2025 Project as well
its something about the cadence of hanks skeet just begs to be made into a sex thing, like "he sure D'ed my growth" or soemthng like that... its a really unfortunate evening to be online and im making it everyones problem arent i
except degrowth is deliberate and planned reductions in consumption FOR THE RICH, and increase in provision of public services (public transport, health care, basic income) for the poor.
Thats not what King Cheeto is doing, so it is curiously misleading and unhelpful use of the degrowth label.
Degrowth is just the result of his reminiscence of the good old days of American manufacturing. It is exactly reflected in project 2025. Strongly religious, local markets and all in all a romanticised worldview of clear roles and segregated communities.
My conspiracy is that it's a Russia job. It tracks with what they would want. Alliances shaken, their Biggest enemy in a terrible state. I wonder what else will be next!
When things like this happen the rich don't lose nearly as much as everyone else . They also get to buy up everything that got sold off for very low prices and wait for them to go back up.
I think that's a gross simplication of what he truly is & what he's really up to; my theory has always been that he's a secret Marxist-Leninist Communist Socialist & that he's saving our country, nah, our whole world, in the only way that was ever possible.
I think there's a very real chance that the economic destruction he causes will lower emissions more effectively than any deliberate effort, and people will take a very alarming message away from it.
I wonder how much tescreal kool-aid he's imbibed. And I wonder how much money Trump and his circle is making off of this market manipulation. I believe there's a synergy here between these people that is incomprehensible to the general, mainstream "liberal" public.
I just want to see how his financial portfolio is doing right now and if he is making money from the situation or losing it. The first means this is intentional and the second suggests it is unintentional
Do you think being a "degrowther" is illogical? Because it's incredibly logical actually. Infinite growth is the ideology of a cancer cell and we must stop being cancerous to our planet.
Degrowth is horribly illogical. Growth is at the core of life. Degrowth is at best a slow death. As for being a cancer to this planet, this planet can and will do more to itself than we can do to it. Meanwhile we are the only part of this planet with the potential to survive beyond its natural life.
That's false. First off, cancer is something that is limited to animals. That's because animals have complex organ systems that need to function in a narrow range. Unbounded growth throws that out of whack. Other organisms, such as plants, have no such constraints.
So for instance there's really no limit on the growth potential of a clonal forest which can grow and thrive for thousands, tens of thousands of years. Something might kill it off eventually, but there's no such thing as cancerous growth there.
The cancer you're talking about killing off are people's jobs and livelihoods, your degrowth agenda is first and foremost going to come at humanity's expense.
Even if I did agree with degrowth, I don't think amputation is the best way to achieve it. Fast, sharp shocks get people killed.

I’ve never read a single degrowth proponent who argued degrowth was about crashing the economy.
Maybe you’re trying to be funny, but ignorant maligning of degrowth is unhelpful & all too common

I'm pretty sure he's been vocal about his belief that only certain types of people should be breathing.
🤷♂️🤪😊
Going to have another coffee, grow up a little (hopefully) and circle back…
And a very small man.
Second presidency: BURN IT DOWN

Food is going to be more expensive, medicine is going to be more expensive, even luxuries like toys are going to be more expensive.
What does poverty do to a person's childhood?
Any degrowth proposals I've seen were slow moving.
icd what your opinions are on it, it's something that needs to happen if we're going to survive as a species.
The thing that triggers that .. not sure. It might come very late
