Francophones journalists love their metonymies. It's often "la langue de Shakespeare" or "la langue de Molière" when alluding to the English and French languages.
La Presse is "le quotidien de la rue Saint-Jacques" and one creative sports reporter once called Toronto FC as “l'équipe du Haut-Canada."

Having grown up reading French-language newspapers I love it too, especially when they deploy classical references, like calling a hockey goalie a Cerberus or lawyers as "disciples of Themis."
