It’s time to make Canada the world’s leading energy superpower — to reduce our reliance on other countries, fight for Canadian jobs, and defend our economic sovereignty.

You best have a long talk with our idiot traitor trash maga rat trump smith and her spineless UCP trash please. They are the embarrassment and shame of Alberta.
No more HC development, double down renewables and sharing what’s already going south. Don’t lower the bar on EAs for connecting pipelines. Simply increase staff so they get done in mths vs yrs.
If we are going to sell to China, you might want to use that as a bargaining chip. Canada will sell you our LNG among other things IF you (China) stop selling drones to Russia. China is petrified their own economy will fall due to trump's tariffs. Why not use that?
He’s got the leadership skills, the knowledge and the resume. There is no disputing that. We have confidence in this person. Vote early folks! Get out on the Easter weekend and vote early. We can give Carney the kind of strong mandate from Canadians, to negotiate with all countries.
Poilievre doesn’t come close to this PM’s experience and expertise. Wow, PP is condescending with the media too. So controlling of their message. Just like Trump.
A thought: Change our rail system to electric build the infrastructure to support the built / dams wind turbines etc. then using excess power generated to charging stations from coast to coast and everything for the built to be made in Canada Bring together the brightest engineers Canada has.
A national grid running parallel to the rail lines.
Include hydrogen filling stations across the country (it takes less than 1/5th compared to superchargers).
Canada already has the hydrogen equipment engineers and manufacturers.
They started and built here without subsidies. Already world leaders.
Sir, please invest in the Oil&Gas industry infrastructure and exploration. The east coast also deserves more investment. We are ready to make it happen!
Of course there is a long term benefit - people tend to think on production, upstream, tax only, but forget to get there a huge infrastructure is required: roads, ports, airports, houses, transport, small businesses… I’ve seen whole cities created around the industry and living beyond the Oil&Gas
Damn I wish this guy could run in the US in a few years. Just for fun look at the possibility of damming the Columbia before it runs into no-mans land. What a waste of water...it just flows to the sea. Just for Trumps sake. Trust me he's that dumb!
Start a Canadian “Manhattan Project” to develop space-based solar power beamed down to… *gestures* well anywhere in Canada, really. You will own the future of human progress. Since we USAniacs are over here eating dirt & smearing shit on the walls, making Star Trek real is there fer you guys, eh.
A huge opportunity to build a Sovereign Wealth Fund like Norway did, which will allow us to invest the tremendous wealth we can generate from global energy sales back into our economy and pensions.
This will necessitate rapidly approving (federally & provincially) and building trans-Canada infrastructure projects like an Energy East pipeline to be able to finally ship our oil and gas products to European markets at scale. We'll have to build faster than we previously deemed possible.
If companies want to pay for the build.
PM Trudeau already approved the East Coast export terminals.
Not one company wanted to invest in the pipelines needed.
With a decade-long build time, and a falling income path forward, pipelines are not the way. Prove you arent captured by oil and gas and fund a real green econonic resurgence.
For the people saying "clean energy only," that's not realistic. Yes, we need to develop clean energy. But the oil and gas industry isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It'll take decades. We will get there. I'm 100% Liberal, but I'm also for oil and gas accessing new exports via a west-east pipeline.
100% this! Green energy is needed but it’s not always cleaner. Don’t be naive, the transition from oil and gas will take a long time. Our resources can be extracted in a sustainable way and Canada’s environmental policies are stronger than most oil and gas producing countries.
It will take a long time.
Peak oil demand may have already been reached.
In 10yrs (when the pipelines etc are finished) the peak will have definitely been reached.
Then we will be competing with OPEC who can drive the price to the floor and still make money.
I'm all for a corridor for pipelines and electricity grid, but I believe big corp should pay for pipelines if they are viable...not the tax payers..Lets see big oil put their money where their mouth is....
Peak oil demand may have already been reached.
In 10yrs (when the pipelines etc are finished) the peak will have definitely been reached.
Then we will be competing with OPEC who can drive the price to the floor and still make money.
That's why nuclear energy and wind energy are so important.
PM Trudeau started those projects a while ago.
Even the conservative premiers agreed.
The only province that is still using coal for electricity is Sask.
The premier's father
owns some Shell stations and is on boards.
We already have hydrogen agreements in place.
We already have the equipment manufacturers.
Make getting those projects up and running a priority.
Ontario sells electricity to the USA for 4 cents kw/hr.
That is low enough to produce/retail clean hydrogen at or below the cost of gasoline and diesel.
If you cared about Canada economic independence you would declare the liberal parties intention to abolish bill c69. You would announce the liberal parties intention to remove all barriers either slowing progress or preventing East-West Coast oil pipelines.
No more subsidies for O&G, if they want to build a pipeline, they can pay for it, clean up the mess they've made for the last ? years and then maybe....
I am soooo sick of O&G getting a pass and never being held accountable for the mess they make.
Sick of it!!
🇨🇦🇺🇦🤔Funny-I was just saying that Canada CANNOT afford the “political showmanship” of Pierre Poilievre-especially when our sovereignty is threatened.
Canadians’ tastes have soured towards the divisive rhetoric-we REJECT Trumpism!
We need a REAL leader who knows their stuff!
That’s you, Mark Carney! 🇨🇦
🔴⚪️🔴 I’m an American 🇺🇸 who is mortified by Trump and US politics. I’m floored by what Poilievre says and by the people who surround him. I can’t believe he’s a serious contender for PM. Please vote Liberal, friends. Keep MAGA out!
Poilievre is not Trump. He's obnoxious, cantankerous, & forever in search of a partisan sound bite, but he's neither stupid nor destructive. I'm also not sure he's a serious contender - his numbers were elevated by Trudeau's unpopularity, & we now have a serious alternative.
🇨🇦🇺🇦🤔I agree AND disagree with you.
I agree that Trudeau was sinking fast and 6 months ago the Liberals would have got their asses handed to them on a silver platter.
But I disagree with you about Poilievre-i will tell you why.
He was a student under Stephen Harper who basically violated the…
Feel free to disagree. I don't see the destruction of the civil service in PP, nor the pure corruption of Trump, & I don't think it's fair to hang Harper on him (tho he's now stumping for PP). I'll say this. I'm a lifelong conservative voter & only 2 guys have made me vote Liberal: Harper & PP.
…rights of Canadian citizen Omar Khadr years ago when he was held at Guantanamo after 9/11 and he was only 15 years old.
He had done nothing wrong but Harper ignored him, refused him any help from our government & left him to rot in jail.
Sound familiar?
When he was freed years later he was…
Don't worry, my friend from the South. Poilievre will remain in the opposition party. We are at war with Trump and the MAGA. When this is over, in four years, we will rebuild our relations. Be strong in the South, the North supports you.
The problem with Skippy remaining in official opposition is that he will literally block *anything* the Libs try to do to improve things for people just so he can say: the Libs didn't do anything.
We need a majority.
Unfortunately at the cost of the NDP (for now)
🇨🇦🇺🇦🤔Agree!
I’ve been a staunch supporter of Jagmeet Singh and the NDP forever but we cannot risk it this time!
Liberals need a majority!
I really really hope Jagmeet wins his seat though-we NEED him!
My sister lives in Jagmeet’s riding and is torn about whether to vote for him or not. She’s switched to Liberal for all recent elections but is a big Singh fan. Meanwhile, all my relatives in ON and PQ are voting Liberal rather than their usual NDP.
the US electorate has a very real opportunity to toss out the Majority of the GOP at the mid terms (if it's not too late by then) and then immediately start impeachment precedings.
I hope you’re right. I’m not an alarmist, but I fear that between a Trump state of emergency and election fraud, we may not have a real midterm election.
Kind words, but it's never going to be the same. Just practically speaking, we needed this jolt to see that dependence on any other country (no matter how good the relationship) isn't to our benefit. With our resources, we can be a world leader.
#CanadaStrong
I agree. Things have changed permanently. It’s scary to live through, but we needed this push. Let’s hope that we elect the government that is capable of handling this transition.
I agree with you 100%. We could be a much stronger country. I hope that changes after the election. But the fact remains that the United States must remain our friends and allies. Trump is destroying that.
we'll still have to trade some, for sure, but I'll be happy when
1 we're more self-sufficient
2 we find other reliable trade partners
3 US gets new leadership ;)
Please *DO NOT* tell us that nuclear power is an option in any version of the future. Unsustainable. Incredibly expensive. Toxic af. No nukes is good nukes. Please.
Everyone asking about Mark Carney's committment to green energy needs to watch this ASAP. This guy has been at the cutting edge of the race to Net Zero before pretty much anyone but climate scientists were talking about it.
And he understands the economics and finances behind it intimately.
Clean and renewable energy* we have an opportunity to innovate. There are jobs to be had in RnD and manufacturing without the need for oil sands/coal etc.
🇨🇦Solar power, wind turbines, battery power. No coal power. Sell the natural gas globally. Oil globally. Canada will not be left in the dark. We together have the potential to be a global leader in energy and production. These Canadian resources are for the Canadian people, not for fascist dictators🇨🇦
You forgot the cleanest and most environmentally sound option - clean hydrogen.
We can use it and export it.
Germany has already signed agreements with us.
I would love to see provinces with an excess of hydro electricity required to sell excess to neighbouring provinces. Take care of Canada before we continue exporting.
We'll never be fully self-sustaining, but we have lots of advantages we can offer to reliable partners. We need closer ties with the EU and Asia, and decouple from the US. 🇨🇦
Mr Carney, you keep invoking "superpower". As a humble and polite Canadian i much prefer meaningful understatement. Save the superlatives for our southern neighbours. As to this topic "...a world leader in energy self-sufficiency" perhaps isn't as sexy, but is less elitist, and perhaps more Canadian
Agreed, as long as that doesn't mean more fossil fuels. In a fossil-fuel free society, we won't need to import oil or methane (so-called "natural" gas) from anywhere, thus achieving true energy independence.
Again, and I know I sound tentative, I believe Clean is in a better position now. We shall see, but dollars will be a problem given the number and size of the projects being spoken of.
We're currently in multiple crisises that are existential to Canadians and to the anthropocene. We must break away from all dependence and use of the US. Simultaneously we must end our most harmful exploitations of the environment. Both are nearly equal in importance making it difficult to navigate.
Hello 👋🏿 .... How are you doing? I hope you are doing good. It is nice to meet you here. I wish you long life, happiness, progress and all the success in this life. God bless you ❤️✝️🙏
SAME! My local Saanich Gulf Islands candidate is Green too! He’s trying to unseat Elizabeth May. We need him to win so Mark can win!! @beckhamliberal.bsky.social https://davidjamesbeckham.ca/about-david/
Fear of a conservative win is driving Canadians closer to American style 2 party system. Don't let Canada slip. Vote green they haven't been bought yet. 💚
If you're looking to institute more public energy solutions rather than just letting profiteering strip more value from Canada, I'm on board. But if your goal is just 'hey lets let billionaire oil execs steal wealth from Canada with minimal regulation' then... no thanks, honestly.
If it's time to make Canada a leader in renewable energy a huge YES!, but if it's time to continue to destroy everything with fossil energy, absolutely NO!
Renewables help our health, environment and bring jobs and new tech development.
Lots that could go wrong here if the government tows the line for industry. No coal. No nuclear. Think: Climate Change isn’t waiting for humans to rework the economy.
Canada and Mexico would benefit greatly if they will continue to build their own economies and trade with each other as well as many of the partners that the US had before Felon in Chief pulled his prank.
Can you start a program for people who now hate to be American due to the orange orangutan cosplay president can move to Canada with no strings attached?
Sorry to disappoint you, but this is not going to happen. Especially no strings attached. We have major housing shortages and trust issues with the US right now.
Will you mandate that any co-investment from the government will give returns to the taxpayer? Or are we just going to fork over tax dollars for oil companies to set up shop and maybe make some jobs along the way?
Ohh there it is. I was wondering when the extraction industry interests would be centered. Or were you thinking of exporting wind, solar, and geothermal to become the world’s leading energy superpower?
markets gonna love this for a day, and realise than the whole us economy is run by a dumbfuck. that there's still tariff on all main trading partner with Canada, Mexico, china.
the whole shits is still cooked. market happy he stopped tariff on penguins. Also fuck the pussies that didnt fight back.
oh we aint going no where, he just gave a small breathing room for the bitches that wasn't fighting back. and even then, we dont know the full details.
💯 I can't believe we're so fortunate to have a PM with this many smarts, experience, etc.
🇨🇦 must be doing something right!
His thinking is so expansive and all-inclusive - just hope the population sees that UNITY is the key to accomplishing all of this.
#CanadaStrong
Absolutely.. unity is the key. Those who seek to divide only weaken Canada. Please, please, please.. learn from our errors! Show Americans how. It’s done !!❤️❤️❤️🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
So, you’re going to put control in the hands of the workers and kick out foreign ownership of natural resources then? Cool!!! Keeping the money in the hands of the workers and out of billionaire’s pockets, right!!!
As Prime Minister your task is to secure Canadian jobs for Canadians and the hell with the Orange Nazi , he started this fight and we as Canadians will end on #Top !!! 👊
#ElbowsUp
#HoldTheLine
Canada should outright boycott any US fossil fuels. The US fossil fuel industry heavily funds Trump and the Republican party. Without the fossil fuel companies' support Trump would likely not be president now.
We can expand our own use of renewables, but we also have to be able to export our oil and gas products to Europe and Asia if we want a thriving economy that is not reliant on exports to the USA. These energy resources simply remain fundamental components of the global economy and energy supplies.
Guess mother nature takes another one for the team then! Boy sure hope we don't end up regretting prioritizing our economies over climate change mitigation some day soon!
We can work towards emissions reductions and building up renewable technologies but O&G are still critical to the way our global civilization functions, and we've kneecapped ourselves by not building the infrastructure to get this energy to other markets that depend on them even more than we do.
Hey am I commenting like somebody who feels in control of any of this at all? Because I'm not! Moar pipelines! Let's do it! Big bucks, ruined landscapes, fuck yeah!
Social programs cost money. Canada is one of the most responsible O & G developers. We should be using the resources we have to build our economy while respecting the environment. Pipelines - yes, renewables - yes, housing, doctors, daycare, dental, debt reduction - yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
Considering that Canada ranks very poorly in terms of climate action, I am concerned about the expansion of FF exploitation. If there no concommitant push for renewals, where we rank lower than Texas, it will be a huge mistake https://ccpi.org/country/can/
Carney was UN Special Envoy on climate action and finance. He has studied ways to make it more effective to finance sustainable energy. I believe he wants us firing on all cylinders, using $$ from trad'l O&G to help fund research and strategies for more sustainable energy.
Why don't we just tax the rich to do that? Seriously. Carney is talking a big game about us adopting the mantle of North American superpower since the US is in the process of abdication if that duty, well they got there by taxing the fuck out of the rich post-WW2, shouldn't we?
It's a valid question, and while not being an economist I suspect that since WW2, capitalists have tilted the ice on favour of them and not us. Capital is much more mobile now than in the past. The buggers can hide money better than a squirrel can hide nuts.
This needs to include renewable energy and electricity storage. If it doesn’t, it will be a disastrous and short-sighted mistake. You are in Alberta today. A province that recently killed a burgeoning renewable industry. The singular focus on fossil fuels needs to change.
As an American that believes in a real America, one supports our neighbors, allies and friends, I support you goals and efforts. Right now we have some problems called MAGA and Trump. Please help us solve our problems. Could you also leave the door open for us if we come knocking, we may need help
Dear friend from the South, it is currently very difficult to immigrate to Canada. But know that if the situation deteriorates too much, our door will be open (asylum seeker). We support you, you are our friends. In 4 years, this will be over, and we will be able to rebuild what Trump destroyed.
Energy security will be enhanced by dramatically reducing reliance on polluting energy whether we export it or use it ourselves. The value of exports, as we all suddenly discovered, can be hit hard by the whims of countries' leaders.
Yes, yes, and Canada is going to sell Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) to Europe, after Biden set it up to hurt Russia….and Trump pissed the whole billion-dollar market away in hours…
So…you are welcome?
Canadians aren't just angry about the tariffs. Trump has insulted and threatened us. We were the best customer and best friend of the US. We have no trust anymore.
I love this man! He is an internationally respected economist who writes in his book, "Value(s)" that much of society's ills today including procrastination on the climate crisis are caused by a corrupt economic system that has Humanity serving the Markets when the Markets should serve Humanity
DITTO I’m annoyed at the criticism a Radio Canada panelist made to Mark Carney about his French. He was asked to rate himself out of 10. Mark gave himself a 6/10 saying his comprehension was stronger. It was RUDE & I don’t recall a Journalist EVER asking Jean Chrétien to rate his command of English.
Also read his speeches, especially the one given at Jackson Hole. You can skip over the charts and read his conclusions to understand a lot about his thinking.
The man is an abuser. He’s toying with peoples lives because his party and bought court and legal system allow it. We shouldn’t trust an administration like this. It will burn us.
I would love to move to Canada but your immigration system does not place value on someone like me. So I need to go there with a lot of money. I'm playing the lottery, maybe one day I can go there with my winnings. If it helps, I speak a little French. Please take me.
Mark you have to warn Quebec to get on board. The rest of Canada should be able to keep the Quebec share of equalization payments if the Quebec government won’t cooperate with the eastern pipeline. As an Ontarian this isn’t fair to Albertans.
So we should be able to force Alberta and Saskatchewan to build clean energy, help build a national grid, build housing, take care of their people ...?
BTW Alberta has gotten far more than its fair share of support from the rest of us.
BTW Ontario has paid more than every other province.
I have no faith in Danielle’s ability to get anything meaningful done for anyone beyond the extortion, and threats she does on behalf the oil companies, and wexiters. And I do realize Ontario has more than carried all of Canada’s weight through some tough times.
True. There's a difference between "Clean" and "Climate friendly" power. Nuclear Fusion (if they ever make it work) would be climate friendly and clean.
Within net zero timescales, there’s no clean, safe or sustainable nuclear energy. We can focus on the clean, sustainable, cheap and deliverable green options.
Also we should work on retrofitting homes and commercial buildings and clear our roads of so many cars by supporting public transit and making it more faster and efficient so we rely less on the cars, unlike what car lobbyists want.
