bluesky has moderation lists and labelers that you can subscribe to and configure to place a warning on or hide whatever it is that you do not want, including misinformation
Community notes didn’t work because they used it in their favor. The big problem maybe a verification for actual political people and actors musicians. No one else.
They didn’t really work at Twitter for a variety of reasons. Among other things, the voting algorithm would need a rethink. I was a contributor. Very few notes are published.
The community notes I requested on Twitter were always ignored despite the information being nasty and patently wrong. Most community notes I saw were put onto things in a misleading and out of context way. These things matter, even if you are not reading properly them but subliminally.
It's like any system; it can't work if most people participating are bad-faith actors. Fact-checking people on social media is an obvious modern necessity, but the only way to work is without people deliberately corrupting it for personal gain or some other kind of ulterior motive.
I was in phase 1 of Birdwatch, the predecessor to “community notes“ which was the Elmo version. We were a group of well vetted, earnest, idealistic people that were doing a hell of a lot of work to try and make Twitter a better community for everyone though combating, dis- and misinformation… [1/2]
and other chicanery. Needless to say when nepo baby took over, it all got bastardized into whatever community notes is. I quit shortly after his acquisition as it became obvious that all our efforts were futile. [2/2]
For clarification, I'm talking about the proposed ones. If you didn't have access, the MAGAs tried to note EVERYTHING. They basically used CNs as a stupid comment section.
The algorithm for identifying whether something was “helpful” was frustrating and slow. And CNs did not seem to change incentives. And you could game the notes by posting an opinion or question founded on falsehoods.
I think most people didn't realize the secret battle that goes on behind almost *every* semi popular tweet. I don't know what the answer is, originally it seemed like a good idea, but it was being abused and exhausting to keep downvoting bad notes.
I remember when Twitter came out. I got hit by a truck less than 2 weeks later and put in a coma for a month... I was saved from all that crap, thankfully, and now I'm so happy to be here!!!
Idk... I like to think we did some good work in trying to keep things honest and accurate... while at the same time knowing some notes were absolutely rubbish...
It says something about a website when you have community notes like this: "The holocaust actually did occur, here is proof". I want no part in a website like that.
I worked on them. I finally thought, here is something I wanted for X, a tool to find fact and truth. And it did, and has, and I have had many approved comments.
It doesn't pay, and it was a constant hassle against bias and lies, by people that suppose to expose them ...
Community Notes were useless. Elmo removed them from his posts when he'd get called out. And by allowing the "useful" or "not useful", all the MAGAts had to do was mass click "not useful" and they disappeared.
Community Notes are a feature of 𝕏 and cannot be either "dumb" or "ass". Similarly they cannot be any combination of those adjectives because they generally apply to living beings, like humans, and not to apps.
I am glad everybody likes Bluesky. It is good to have a platform with a different flavour.
But by your comment this thread is getting a bit smug and complacent.
The users here are just human too. Not infallible oracles of truth.
I dunno, the notes themselves were pretty good. Not only did they combat misinformation, they also provided credit to the original artist when someone uploaded simething without credit, in one or two instances that I've seen.
The feature itself is good, what I don't miss is needing it to exist.
I don't miss complaining about NAZI imagery and being told it didn't breech community standards, but when I suggested to Dr Phil he should f off and mmm stop breathing, well I got in BIG trouble. I think it was the stop-breathing thingie that did it
Right?
"This is an obvious lie or unfactual statement"..
No shit, Sherlock, wind generators are NOT killing whales.
Hell, rfk jr has taken off more whale heads than wind generators!!
Pretty sad that we had to have a fucking community note up on that Doucheboy’s tweet about how it’s “Your body, my choice” to tell the inbreds on ‘X’ that SEX WITHOUT CONSENT IS FUCKING RAPE.
Where are we?!
Trump won and rapists came outta the woodwork like they had tickets to get validated
I do wish they had trending topics here. If an earthquake happens, shootings, deaths, other important world events, it’s a quick way to glance at what’s on people’s minds.

How else would you handle mis/disinformation?
otherwise yeah it was often just a depressing mixture of pedants and right wingers arguing about the definition of a word
Dumbass Elon Tweets
Then I wound up fighting musk bots forever.
It's like that kid in school who was always in your face
trying to "make" you like him.
POLLS.
Not much, mind you.
Amazing, right?
That place is such a dumpster fire anyway though. Every third post is an ad!
The community notes that actually required community notes themselves.

For the past week they all act like sore losers.
They voted for this.
And trolls.
And porn bots.
Just scrolling through my feeds, and not a single ad in sight! It’s great!

Just the execution of it is/was absolutely terrible

I get what you mean about CN becoming a maga comments section though.

And the constant refreshing. Hated that.
But I get you. The system was a good one, and they could be very frickin funny.
