I fear that those who work on them and advise are too slow to be any help in these times.
That those leaders were shocked by the effective US NATO withdrawal at Munich and again yesterday was wholly inept.
Meeting with your opposition to negotiate requires accepting the culture and personality of the opposition.
Otherwise it’s a face off.

I don’t think anyone is deluded about Trump.
But responsible politics means would should try to deescalate and delay.
In the meantime we prepare.

This is not about flattery but soft diplomacy which is needed no matter how much one abhores the optics of the Zelenskyy Trump Vance meeting.
But that's doesn't make good copy.

Appeasement seems to be the new word written by the media, which actually means DIPLOMACY.

Starmer has a v difficult path to tread but being a flimsy ‘bridge’ between the EU and the US risks losing the trust of our far more reliable European partners. Governing to please the rancid rightwing press has been ruinous. It needs to stop immediately.

We need closer ties with Europe, the continent we are part of.
Appeasing a madman like Trump and his master, Putin is a mistake.
I think he and Macron went on a charm offensive in the hope it would help Zelensky.
It failed. Perhaps predictably.
But I appreciate them giving it a try when I can only imagine it made them extremely uncomfortable and completely against how they wanted to act.
It'll take time to be able to operate independently, &, in the meantime time, we have to stop USA rendering us without protection.
That means trying to keep Trump from having a tantrum against us & our allies.
The notion that you shouldn't do business with those you don't like is plain dumb.
In the meantime, the UK is seen to debase itself on the international integrity stage!
Cool heads are what is needed now. There is time to adjust position should push come to shove.
