Keir Starmer's Government now boasts they are doing what the Conservatives "only ever talked about".
But if the "change" Starmer promised is being even harsher on refugees, the poor and disabled than the Conservatives managed, then is it really change at all?

I voted Green. Had more of us done so perhaps he'd have second thoughts about emulating Reform and the Tories now. Instead, he knows...
Labour is no longer fit for purpose as a party of the left, yet most on the left continue to support it.
It's ridiculous.
The bread-and-butter of polling companies is commercial research. Pollsters simply can't afford to be seen with high-profile political polling to be putting out skewed figures. Failure damages their reputation and thence their profits.
I will struggle next election at this rate. I have told my MP. I don't know if it travelled upwards.
This thing of abandonment of manifesto pledges should be punishable.
No real evidence that Labour is cutting PiP, yet there will need to be measures to hold back the ballooning of welfare costs.
People want performative cruelty, low taxes and world-class public services. 1 out of 3 ain’t bad.
The majority of mainstream media want us to think that's not true, but then they're owned by foreign oligarchs who are terrified of losing their wealth.
You're helping the oligarchs.
Whether that be the blue or red incarnation.
But our crazy electoral system doesn't provide a satisfactory alternative atm, and there's very little incentive for those in power to improve that, is there?
Many people just can't bring themselves to vote for any of the available options, from what I hear.
And I can understand that.
The parties that would support your story are still a minority.
If you're talking about the US, you're on your own.

I’m genuinely concerned that the argument has been lost in this country when it comes to sensible and humane asylum and immigration policy.
There is no excuse for the performative cruelty.
Otherwise we're just wasting taxpayers' money - and oddly most of it seems to have gone to corrupt chancers who donated to the tory party...
But he doesn´t seem to get that.
I know some pensioners who get attendance allowance at the higher rate, though the person that cares for them is their spouse. This is an additional £5700 a year, but they dont really have that level of expense 1/2
The system needs to be more varied than just a couple of rates
Seems legit.
I believe the benefit rates for some are too high, or inappropriate, but i dont make the rules.
Until the rules change I help people within those rules, just as I was happy to have WFA when it was universal, but I am not bothered it has gone
An opportunity to do right by those downtrodden & forgotten these past two decades.
A chance to do justice & free climate activists/also condemn Israel for genocide
A moment to seize & to rejoin EU, however they chose.
FFS we need our neighbours now more than ever.
I’m not saying there’s straightforward answers when you want to win an election, but it was the speed with which they wanted to appeal to Mumsnet fascists (over their own supporters)
Have you noticed, Sarah that the Labour fan club have gone quiet with the 'give them a chance it's [insert excuse]'?
A support system widely considered to be the most difficult to game?
Utterly childish question
Go and tone police elsewhere.

I really don't understand why Starmer's fans think this won't leave them looking utterly naive.

there's a distinct down turn, agreed, how many notches that might be, I'm unclear
In place.
Blair, Brown, Darling would have grasped those opportunities and changed strategy.
They are stuck in the mindset adopted to win the election
It was actually gifted to them by the Tories.
McSweeny won the internal battle in No 10. He is focussed on the next election, he confirmed that after the last.
Good leaders make the weather. McSweeny / Starmer being blown by it.
Don't agree with austerity either, but where would you find the necessary funding from?
Tax?
Other sources?
It all needs money and the behaviour of the Conservatives in throwing good money after bad just magnified it all.
It may sound counterintuitive, but spending the money is cheaper than making cuts, it improves the public purse rather than harming it.
Where are you taking it from?
A wealth tax would allow them to avoid penalising the most vulnerable. What about landlords? They’ve been making a fortune for years - tax them. Etc, etc, etc.
This has been explained over and over and over again 🤷♀️
It’s not a (small) matter that can be remedied anytime soon
And so, to ensure ppl don’t think that it’s hanging there as a solve-able issue relating in any way to the implied failure (above) to change Tory choices .
YES. WE. KNOW.
That's why we need to start now and not wait until our economy is even more of a basket-case before efforts begin in earnest.
The saving from this new period of austerity (eg - DDP) will not be realised for several years.
If you don’t start something, you’ll never achieve it.
What a letdown they are.
Despite Farage doing well in polls currently, unlikely he can win enough seats to form a government. Limited appeal despite in red wall seats.
(I'll kick myself if this turns out to be true)
And it wasn't because they wanted another Tory Party to take their place.
How many different ways can it be said?
