Germany selling out to Russia over Nordstream was self-sabotage but it had a logic: Russia had cheap gas that Germany could use. The US turning towards Russia is mad. The US is the world’s biggest oil and gas producer. What does Russia have that America needs?

Americans should know that Trump just abandoned allies with a combined GDP equivalent to US GDP, in exchange for Russia which has a GDP only 6% the size of US GDP.

But it is not the USA that needs it, it is Trump that needs it.
And they sure as hell don't care about longtime consequences.
But probably Russia rather has something Trump thinks America does NOT need: Kompromat, about him.
My guess is that they consider Russia to be an important ally in breaking down the rule-based world order, allowing them to impose power domestically and internationally.
Much of Trump admin's domestic agenda has been straight out of Yarvin.
