That Daniel Penny and Daniel Perry and Kyle Rittenhouse and George Zimmerman are all walking around free in the most carceral nation in the world is something that demands a reckoning.

I never heard any of this. I know that he got divorced & was arrested twice for pointing his gun at his girlfriend’s head & breaking some of her furniture.
reckoning? Maybe more like national group therapy. Or, damn, can't believe I would say this, but, burn it all down and start over. Soooo many reasons now, for the latter suggestion.
No! I'm saying that the system is built so that wealthy white dudes get away with murder, crimes, and misbehavior in general, as long as those impacted are mostly not wealthy white people. That was Wilhoit's nicely stated insight. It's not an oversight or omission.
I’m not commenting on whether or not someone this man deserves to die, but this dude had been arrested around 30 times. He was the mentally ill person on the train who gets violent and who you can’t reason with. He wasn’t one of the many that just yelled and cursed. There is a difference.
On the original post where someone said that we New Yorkers are used to someone swearing on the train. I’m saying that this dude was another level beyond just the guy who swears. If people want to interpret that as me saying he deserved to die, then whatever. Says more about them than anything.
If we can’t have real conversations about unpleasant things, then where will that leave us? There is a very small % of homeless people in NYC who are too unstable and dangerous to be wandering around. The city needs a solution for their safety as much as for ours. This should have been prevented.
no one knew that about him. the guy who killed him did not know a thing about him so he couldn't have been reacting to that. you are going through hoops to defend a murderer and that says a lot about you
You people just say the word “murder!!!” like it’s the biggest own. It really is embarrassing to watch you people try and fail to have an intelligent conversation.
We live in a world where everything has to be binary. The guy who was killed is someone who was severely mentally ill, dangerous, and done a major disservice by everyone in his family and the city. He didn’t belong in the public. At the same time, he didn’t deserve to die. Nuance is dead.
Even as a New Yorker, I didn’t really follow the case. Why did the jury find him not guilty? Again, not saying he deserved to be murdered. I’d imagine these were diverse NYC liberal jurors. Something made them think he wasn’t guilty. I’ll be curious if they speak as to why.
let me get this straight: you think daniel penny had a neuralink that connected directly to the police computers and, when scanning jordan neely, it informed him of his entire criminal history. and in that moment, he went full robocop and murdered him in front of those people
Every fall it starts off strong
The leaves turn brown as we skip along
Once our costumes have been tossed away
The wind turns cold and the sky turns grey
Kids say thank you while eating their pie
Mom goes online and decides what to buy
Now it turns dark by 4pm
Oh how I wish this winter would end
There's nothing new or revelatory about white folks getting to kill black folks and get away with it, in America. Sad but true, and certainly not a new feature of the 20th century.
“Those who kill their own children and discriminate daily against them because of the color of their skin; let murderers of blacks remain free and punish the black population who demand their rights as free men—how can those who do this consider themselves guardians of freedom?”
—Ché Guevara
When we are constantly told that violence is an acceptable answer to our problems, and we are constantly told that guns are a sacred tool to promote positive change, and we are shown repeatedly that people are allowed to kill "the right people,"
i suppose rittenhouse might have legitimately defended himself (man idk, don't @ me) but how tf did he not get in serious trouble for illegally doing gun shit before that
down to strange wisconsin laws that are like "it's illegal for minors to own a gun except if it's a long barreled rifle" "oh an ar15 has a 16 inch barrel well that's fine then" lol. america
Just a note...I found that nearly all this person's skeets were reportable, and did so before blocking the account. Might be something worth lokking into.
That is not how the justice system works. If you murder up the social/racial hierarchy you will be found guilty, if you murder down it you might not be.
Those guys aren't *just* walking around... they have become folk heroes to the right wing simply because they got to murder people they hate and got away with it.

Florida is a bad place.
Identify the enemy.
End the oligarchy.
Shut up
There's no conversation to be had here.

These are not caveman times anymore. We need to stop electing primarily based on height. " Invader Zim " is NOT a documentary.
Electing the tall bankrupt guy hurts our credibility on a global stage .
