President-elect Donald Trump intends to install Kash Patel, a close ally and former national security aide who has berated the Justice Department and the news media, to replace Christopher Wray as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

With how much the Republicans have been crying out against alleged weaponization of the FBI, surely Senate Republicans will not allow like someone like Kash Patel into this position, right?
I wish I could bet $1 for every nomination passed and pay $1 for every nomination stopped. My guess is that I'd pay out at most $3 and otherwise clean up.
Don’t expect any of the picks to be qualified. Just yes-men & yes-women that will do his bidding. He is not setting up an administration that will self-govern, but rather just his usual cabal of useful idoiot whipping boys. What for the destruction of the all freedoms and norms.
Revise headline to fit how NOT NORMAL and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS this decision is- FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER a non-FBI agent & conspiracy theorist that even Bill Barr wouldn’t approve of etc etc
I get it, the degradation and destabilization of the US republic is happening at dizzying pace, but,
this headline should include the phrase "In a highly unusual move..."
As the current FBI director, previously appointed by Trump, has 2 years left in his term.
Hi @npr.org I appreciate you. Please don't give in.
In my humble opinion, I think that the description should mention that Trump must get rid of Wray first, as they serve 10 year limits. Thank you.
We should pick our president and legislators by randomocracy - basically a lottery of all eligible citizens. It would get money out of politics (no expensive campaigns to fund) and would be a much closer representation of the people living in a given district.
We’re in for a loooooong 4 years. People better be ready for a corrupt justice dept going after Trump political opponents. Better start mobilizing so we can take this country back starting in 2026.
But if these are the people they’re trying to push through, that’s the problem. They’ll continue to push in unqualified insane people until they get a confirmation. The GOP are telling us exactly who they are and we need to pay attention and take them seriously.
I'm also completely certain that before midterms Alto and Thomas will retire letting McDonald appoint 2 more horrible supreme Court justices, effectively screwing over progress for a generation
Another criminal chosen. It seems to be a pattern with this future administration. As teacher, I can’t imagine any school hiring me with all my clearances. That’s what they are doing here. The difference is that these people will impact the whole world.
Why are people trying to normalize any of this? I can't take it. I'm 76 I've voted 54 yrs/PA Never seen anything like this. So he just meanders in & destroys everything about our democracy I've known all my life. We discuss it ad nauseum but it's coming without any one to stop it
50% of Americans are to be blamed for this. Thats 77 millions of misinformed people, catholics, old men and uneducated people. That tells you a lot about the fabric of American society.
I would argue that it is many more than that. First there is everyone who voted for Trump, but then there is everyone who could have voted to stop him but didn't vote. In the face of fascism (a term I use reservedly) there is no excuse for inaction.
Legacy news sane-washing is driving away readers. Do better NPR.
No mention that he couldn't pass the background checks, no mention that he profits off the trump brand selling merchandise, no mention of his strong J6 support.
Every lie he told about the FBI and the DOJ being weaponized against him, he is going to try to make into reality against anyone that stands in his way.
People keep referring to *four years." I'm surprised that this many people feel confident that we'll ever have an election again, and instead, we just cast the last votes we'll ever cast. We're coming into one-party authoritarian repressive regimes rule. Free elections don't happen under them.
NPR doesn’t say dangerous conspiracy theorist. He wants to jail journalists and NPR just makes it seem like he’s a regular politician. Our media is playing a fully active role in ushering in fascism.
There is no that line Trump and the GOP crosses that won’t be sanitized by our media.
Journalists are like women in a terrible abusive relationship that did not get away when they had the chance. They could have exposed the whole Trump lunacy years ago, but they didn’t. If they do it now, they are accused of hysteria and they run the risk of getting a career ending beat up. 😔
They could have done it way sooner than that, during Trump’s first run. Instead of squashing him with facts and reasoning, the media danced with him because it kept the news cycle “exciting” and it generated more buzz and clicks. They played a dangerous game with him and lost. We all lost.
Right. I meant it wasn’t too late a few short weeks ago. They could’ve ended his chances if in October they went on the type of coordinated attack that they did with Biden’s age. The media had endless chances to do the right thing and each time decided to help Trump instead.
His government choices are a joke. Trump has placed the bar so low that it is not visible to the naked eye. Who needs qualifications? And of course everyone will be approved, McConnell paved the way for that long before trump was even elected the 1st time.
#kashonly was trending on Twitter (x) last week. It's no surprise that patel was chosen. Im sure truth social was similar. Trump is playing to his audience

To allow 45's transition to go around this process would be a dereliction of senate duty.
All sane republicans have been voted out by now.

Stop pandering to the people who refuse to listen

Someday, somewhere, the gross neglect of duty by the US media will be the subject of books & films.
Maybe not in the U.S., as we might never escape the repressive maga regime.
But "that Trump & his cabinet haha."
big long thread🧵
