Additionally, he plans to announce reciprocal tariffs on "everyone" on Tuesday or Wednesday: "If they charge us, we charge them. That's all," he said. "Every country will be reciprocal."

Exactly, he always says outrageous things to make people focus on the sound bite. I wish it wasn't so effective, but the media loves sound bites too much.
This π
Much of his ridiculous orders and proclamations are simply to distract everyone from all of the graft, corruption and theft going on behind the scenes.

In order to build all of the βmanufacturing at homeβ needed to address these tariffsβ¦ we need access to materials to build up that aforementioned manufacturing. How do you build factories when materials are more expensive?
Being almost 40, I distinctly recall how each trade agreement was celebrated as a giant leap.. any history book clearly demonstrates the benefits of tradeβ¦
Our governments have to play politics, especially when dealing with a delusional leader/country.
But we do not have to play politics, we as consumers can retaliate without mercy and keep the pressure on to ensure they never forget.
Canada and all of our true allies, it is time to unite.
π¨π¦ π²π½ πͺπΊ
No offence America but the stuff you export is generally crap and doesn't meet the standards most countries deem acceptable. Trump ain't gonna win this, at the end of the day it's consumers who decide what to buy.
Ermm...Sooooo... Wouldn't a way round this problem be to stop dishing out tarrifs in the first place? It's the sort of advice you give to a child when he complains that when he hits his older brother..his older brother hits back. What's the reason Trump doesn't get this?
What he wants is to bring every industry back to the US. Which will essentially turn us into one big waste dump, bc he certainly wouldnβt do it with clean tech.
This is funny . Every building heβs built was constructed from China steel . Back in his first few months of office during his first term, Dems proposed we only use US steel for our infrastructure projects.
Republicans shot it down . Trump had an opportunity to intervene . He chose not to β¦
Finally, I see how amazing he is! He said, "I won on groceries. Very simple word, groceries." At last, I see how he's going to get the price of groceries down. It's so obvious. Isn't it? Isn't it? π₯΄
Let it burn. Letβs see what is left when the fire is out. Destroyed from the inside. History is a biatch that insists on repeating itself. Heβs a genius. Hired Elon to do his job, and now he is free to play golf double the time he did in his first term. Itβs going to be carnage.
Pay only a passing notice. Itβs a distraction from what the GOP states are doing and what musk is doing.
Remember - the doge bros have your social security numbers.

Do his voters already get that those tariffs are paid by......them!? That prices have gone up already and will even more!? Do they get that and does that piss them off?
Last time he did this, China just stopped soy imports from the US which cost the US an immediate $9bn in lost sales. Trump then had to use taxpayer money to bail out farmers at something like $12bn. Since just that tarrif, the US lost an estimated $250bn in trade iirc. REPORT THAT EVERY TIME.
If even a few more countries join BRICS or the current members strengthen their trade arrangements, the USA will lose more and more ground. We might not have trade deficits but it will be because we won't have many exports. Stopping USAID will already devastate farmers whose goods are used abroad.
Their plan is to starve, to devastate us into compliance. They know we will do almost anything to feed our families so they are making food scarce. Eat the rich.
Felon 47 is really like the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. The more he threatens tariffs, the less folks listen to him. Remember: Do not obey in advance.
1. Open bank.
2. Trick people into putting their money in your bank.
3. Close the bank.
4. Disappear the money.
5. Blame socialists.
6. Settle with regulators years later for pennies on the (stolen) dollar.
He initiated the tariff war now he's claiming they started it and he's retaliating?
Can hardly wait to lose this trade war like we did in his first term where he delivered a win to China because he doesn't give a shit and his followers are idiots
Definitely will expense things up. There is a less understood, more sinister reason for doing the obviously wrong things. Break the Fed. Summon Martial Law. Emasculate Congress. Install an Oligarchic Dictatorship. More to come. Stay tuned.
The felon's tariffs will raise prices for Americans and damage international relations. Let's contact our Washington politicians if they are Republicans and tell them that they wonβt be re-elected if they donβt stop trump. He needs to be impeached and removed from office.
It is one thing for people who hold almost none of the wealth in this country to not pay taxes, but it is different for the 1% that own 31% of the wealth in this country to not pay. Tesla hasn't paid taxes for several years for example.
Economics is directly tied to fiscal policy. Keynesian economics point out that money in the hands of those who will use it to consume goods (middle class and below) drives the economy. Money in the hands of those who will use it for investing in stocks doesn't have that effect.
I've studied economics more than you would imagine. You aren't making points at all.
Government spending has been funded by taxation of the non-wealthy masses and treasuries for years. It's caused skyrocketing wealth inequality. We need taxation like in the 50s.
Driving up the prices on the USA taxpayers back. Good job red states. I voted for Harris. A much better choice. Much smarter to start with. By a long shot. Much, much smarter. Way smarter! I could go on but I only have 300 characters. I could move to a resume for the job. Where to start on that!
The basic theme of Trump's most pathetic life is that everyone is against him - personally. So, now, he has achieved his ultimate goal of revenge on the world.
It doesn't matter that it will hurt Americans. That's never been part of the equation.
Born with a golden fork but respect ever illusive.
We should bring our businesses back here, but the way heβs going about it is like a wrecking ball. And theyβre not going to be charged anythingβWE are (by the same corps that underpay us).
There are parallels to the breakup of the Soviet Union. It's a GOP press to remove public protections, make us suspicious of one another, arbitrarily criminalize the poor, & nationalize Christianity.
That's good news if true, but it begs the question why so many people think this administration can kill NPR if they can simply shrug off that 1% like a bug bite. Something doesn't add up to me, but I hope you are correct.
Welcome to the new normal in legacy media reporting, I guess. While there was a "stenography" problem before, with stories too often just being the repetition of things powerful people say, I imagine that's the absolute most we'll get for quite a while. That, and wholesale distribution of lies.
It's like he just learned about retaliatory tariffs from Canada Mexico and says oh my God we could be doing that too. He does not understand international trade.
Now letβs all increase wages & benefits in North America by 100% & everything will work out just fine . Oh & then tax the shit outta the multimillionaires & billionaires & rein-in corporate greed ( grocery, pharmaceutical & bank profits ) , end subsidies for fossil fuels, help πΊπ¦ & Palestiniansβ¦ π
Ok economists, here's your chance to explain to me and everyone else how the Stable Genius, MAGA "Man of the People" tariffs/trade war is GOOD for Americans.
If only the Rethuglican Senate & Congress were less concerned about showing fealty to their Don & more interested in being the party of Lincoln Republicans committed to upholding your constitution, governing for all your citizens' benefit, & keeping the executive branch in check. π€π€ If only ... π
I'll bet that the people rebuilding in North Carolina and California are sooo excited about the cost of supplies skyrocketing. Plus, factor in the fact that many agricultural and construction workers are immigrants.
Wouldnβt it be poetic if his various means of transportation couldnβt be repaired because parts or raw materials are unattainable or substandard quality?
Humpty Dumpty and all that.
I would say I feel sorry for the farmers who will lose their farms and get bought up by corporations, buuuuuuut the saying goes fool me twice, shame on me.
GOP said exactly what it was going to do.
Thanks! I cancelled Hulu a while back, but I'll see if I can find it on the high seas or at least a cliffnotes.
I know, just from being here in the Midwest, the big change in how farming operates (and how ignorant Americans are of it). Most don't even know how much Ag is owned by foreign powers.
And it GALLS me how GOP still flogs the notion of the traditional American salt-of-the-earth, backbone of America farmer. There are a few, but they're a dying breed. It's virtually a myth now.
He has no idea what he's doing. It's still unbelievable that millions of people voted for an idiot like that. It's the only way he found to pay for his tax cuts...so lower the tax for the rich and increase the cost of living for the poor.
The shakedown:
"He also said that no other country should have a majority stake in U.S. Steel, but he encouraged Nippon Steel to make a major "investment" in the company."
Oh they just missed the pay to play memo- buy Trumpβs personal bitcoin, or donate to confirm with him the trading code and bingo! Tariffs will vanish. Well that is what some people say or very many people are saying or that experts are saying that everyone is saying. Pay to play baby.
Economists said it in 2024, he's taxing Americans consumers, from the same guy who says he'll cut taxes. Here it is again, taxes by another name. Tariffs hit most harder, less for the wealthy because they save more income. Who's dumber, the poorly educated electorate or Trump? It's a close call.

They are always, always the victim.
Well, I guess utilities are optional.
how wonderful, trump can talk about ending income tax but actually has no power to do that.
Trump does have the power to put tariffs on countries.
we are just getting more taxes.
I'm not rich.
but I understand what's it's like to have to pay income taxes and with tariffs it's an extra burden on the poorest of peoples.
but it's what middle america voted for

It's good for a very few Americans.
It's good for traders who are in collusion with the executive branch. Simple market manipulation / volitility trades.
It's good for the folks who engineer the nationalized digital-currency profit scheme "solution" once the dollar collapses.
Humpty Dumpty and all that.
Not poetic. By design.
The executive branch ,wants you to bleed out then rescue you with their own digital-currency profit scheme.
Hurray! He saved us, just like he said he would...
