The expanded financial aid plan will also offer free tuition to families that make $200,000 or less. The move comes after affirmative action was barred from the admissions process.

Will they select their incoming prospects on their academic achievements without knowing their financial situation, or will their economic background be a deciding factor? I mean, I love the idea, but wouldn't they just accept less low income kids?
Terrible headline. The gist is that for families making less than 200 K tuition will be free while students whose families make less than 100 K will get free tuition plus housing etc
"If a student's family makes less than $100,000 annually, the cost of attendance is free, including tuition, food, housing, health insurance and travel costs. If a family makes $200,000 or less, tuition is free."
I wonder if this has to do more with the content of Harvard courses or rather the fact that affluent individuals have been found to lack as much empathy and compassion compared to those who are not as well off
Gifted students often are groomed from early childhood for success through tutoring, extracurricular activities and classes, grade acceleration, and other extras that are available only to the wealthy and connected.
Many are cocky, self-centered, insulting, and say “I’m from Harvard” way too much.
This is fantastic. They, along with every other top tier school, should have been doing this decades ago. It shows they had the money to do it, not the appetite.
“Harvard has offered free admission in previous years, with the threshold for eligibility increasing several times. The last jump was in 2023, when it was $85,000.”
So they charge nearly $90,000 a year. Wouldn't it make more sense to just lower the cost per year. Higher education in America is busted. I work with people who went to some really nice universities and earned their degree. However, in the end they work the same job I did making the same money.
READ THE FINE PRINT. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Harvard's GOP/MAGA grads in the WH & on Capitol Hill are tanking this nation economically, socially, constitutionally and Harvard knows it.
My God, there are some cynical bastards here. Harvard has been doing this for a very long time. This headline is about them increasing the income thresholds, this is not a new program. A huge number of Harvard students are on financial assistance.
Everyone should have zero student loan debt. When did it get decided that education was only covered through high school? All public college should be free, and private should not be allowed to pay admins millions. That way tuition for private becomes affordable to those who want it.
Read “If a student's family makes less than $100,000 annually, the cost of attendance is free, including tuition, food, housing, health insurance and travel costs. If a family makes $200,000 or less, tuition is free. Families that make more than that will still qualify to receive financial aid.”
Why are you covering this. This is gross. University of Illinois is free for students under 70,000. And that’s a public university with an endowment that is 100th or maybe 1000 the size of Harvard. Just a pathetic article.
Apply, it is competitive, but you never know. Have a very good admission package and do your research on faculty and culture. Be diligent and consistent and show your strengths.
Well I was sort of joking, I'm 48 and besides I'm openly LBGTQ, they would call me a DEI and you know that the colleges are going to keep us out regardless just to suck up to the orange serf
Guess who will benefit most from this? Wealthy families. If “make” is defined as income, most wealthy families earn money through investments and only recognize the income when withdrawn.
Just pull out enough for 4 years of expenses and they will show they “make” less than any number they want.
The same people who devote all their time and energy towards cheating on their taxes will find a way to manipulate their income to qualify for free tuition. Just because.
Income requirements for prospective students for the next academic year: If a student's family makes less than $100,000 annually, the cost of attendance is free, including tuition, food, housing, health insurance and travel costs. If a family makes $200,000 or less, tuition is free.
The highly paid admins soak up most of the money. College presidents can make 1/2 million a year or more. Those outlays must be moderated for a fairer experience. Legacy admissions should end too.

It's crazy that it's not free, at least for skills in high demand like healthcare
That’d be like booing your own batter.
Tuition isn't enough.
Low-income families wouldn't be able to cover housing and meals.
Also apply to other schools .
You can do this 💗
I always say, worth trying ☺️
Just pull out enough for 4 years of expenses and they will show they “make” less than any number they want.
Affirmative action isn’t even in the article
Of I go to Harvard, is it a guarantee I’m making 6 figures after I graduate? If not, not worth it.
