And "behind" us here, from the view shown, is the rest of the universe retreating into infinity, invisible even if we develop better 'scopes.
Not colors the eye would see, no. But they're not added for effect either. These are wavelengths of "color" that our eyes can't perceive and this is how the instruments on the space telescope interpret those wavelengths to us.
Interesting that the center of the nebula, which indeed resembles a portal, looks intriguingly like a new earth. Scottie, could you beam me up, please, bro?
Yup. I can't wait for the day that humanity can travel the 2,283 light years to get there so that we can go through and travel anywhere we want in the blink of an eye. 😜
