I think it matters in some cases where bad performance means things will get shut down. Like, if all the VR stuff perform badly, people will stop making it. If I were a fan of VR, that would actually make me a little sad or disappointed.

Definitely agree with you about people attaching themselves to the “performance” of a site. That’s just ridiculous. But I will say I’ve seen a noticeable dropoff in interaction (mine and others) as well actual person-to-person conversation. Those things fading makes it a less fun app to use.
