You can call it a failure of imagination, but the projection for Sinners was the same as a typical horror movie: $40M opening and then a big falloff.
With its production & marketing budget there wasn't a clear profitability path especially since it's a period piece which rarely do big $$
You know how I missed this: the title. My local (red state) theater deals in off-brand religious movies. This got mis-sorted by my right-wing-religious-dreck filter. And no trailer hit my algorithms. Will correct

Unfortunately it had a budget of $90 million. Add $45-75 million for marketing etc it needs to make $135-165 million globally to break even.

Where are the documentaries exposing the GQP, where are the protest movies...where are the "controversial statements"...nothing but crickets and appeasement.
Everyone should see it in the theater with a crowd and not wait for the streaming.
