Another thing that makes that awesome are those slight (and rare) deviations in the formula where a KILLER rattles Columbo. The Leonard Nimoy one is nigh-legendary for this.

Even if it's bad, it's still freaking pizza. In this case, you still get a fun Peter Falk performance out of the deal, if nothing else.
There may be a formula, but you don't care when the formula is *THAT* damn good, when Peter Falk is *THAT* damn good.
