The nuts they have aren’t the same as the nuts we have. Our nuts are running our government and country to the ground and are supported by even more nuts. That’s why we, over here, don’t live as long.
It is hard to get healthy, clean food in the US even if you're rich. Prices for rubbish same as for selected organic in Europe. Crap meat for top $. Restaurant/take-away almost always cheap grease/oil, salt and sugar. Lax control/legislation in comparison to EU, etc. etc.
I am confused that you were duped into thinking you have the world's best health system. I have an aortic stent, a bypass to my femoral artery, and will shortly have another stent in another artery. The cost to me for these, to visit my G.P. $0 and subsidised medicine. Australia has Medicare.
EU farming methods are superior. As a result, their vegetation is much more effective at turning carbon into healthy biproducts, while not caking their food with as much Monsanto Glyphosate (herbacide), as North American farms use. The different farming methods result in much healthier food/soil.
I agree, since Covid-19 it's been very slow but it's getting better by me. Used to wait a week and a half for an appointment. After covid it was 3 or more months. Now it's about 1 to 2 months. For hubby recently it was only a couple of weeks.
It’s true, it’s getting a bit better. But like I wrote, I think it’s insane that we pay so so so much, and the service is genuinely not better than in Europe. At least in LA that has been my experience 😢
A friend told her USA die-hard republican mom: your granddaughter is going to med school. But she’s going in Germany, thus she’ll graduate with no debt. She can practice medicine any way she wants so as to help people in need …has always been her goal. In USA we charge people a fortune to do that.
Americans live shorter because they cannot go to the doctor without going bankrupt, so they do not go. Also, they are fucking stupid (see most recent presidential election results).
Said for many years I can't work out why you Americans fight against Medicare the only people you hurt is yourselves.Stop giving the power to insurance companies and corporations to rip you off all the time. In Aust. if you have a sore toe to having cancer you are covered. If you want insure you can
Man you seriously need help. You are the problem with our country. Small little hateful punk. No idea what you're talking about. Even a Canadian citizen tells you you're full of shit. But nope trump. Hopefully you don't have family with medicaid or social security. Bill tonight will bring disaster
This guy is pure clown. In the irony of being called american 1776, and not even understand what it was all about. Hahaha these fake patriots. Who would stop on the constitution and back a fascist leader who's main objective is to end Democracy. And end our alliances with all our allies. Canada🇨🇦❤️
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Priceless. Fascist are so gullible. Just sad little cowboy.
So one rogue employee is projected as govt policy. The employee is gone. At least they have such things supplied. Often the difficulty is finding local contractor to do the work, not just govt funding.
https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6671721. Yup and the VA employee who made these offers has been removed. In order to qualify for the MAID program you have to been signed off by two doctors, have a life ending disease or ailment. Which was not the case for Miss Gauthier. This employ was a wing nut and luckily gone
I got food poisoning a year ago and the hospital charged me $23,000. Insurance expected me to pay $3k… Our medical care is all theatrics to feed the greedy middle man. I guess if I get something life-threatening like cancer, I better just die.
The Blue Zones Project is wild to me, because they're like "these populations live longer because they eat fruit and walk more," and I'm like "yeah, and they don't work 100+ hours/week to pay their bills while three bosses tell them to work harder, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it."
Have you asked your prescription plan to make a formulary change. I pay 4.00 for a drug I practically forced them to make formulary for as is 1000 otherwise and they grandfathered it in.
By tying themselve with a leash that orange's pulling like a madman. And no, not for a reduced cost. It was at a GREAT expense. The sold military stuff wasn't especially cheap (F-35, cheap, lol), plus it meant and still means a deep vassalisation and lack of sovereignty and missed opportunities
There are reasons if USA NEVER wanted a truly independent EU and fought to erase up to the idea of EU sovereignty, pushing for the economic market club with European accomplices like UK and Germany for the most influential ones.
In effect, you argue against yourself and are now siding with the Orange Menace.
The two of you agree the days of the post WW II Marshall Plan are officially over.
Trump, too, is n-o-w encouraging the EU to be 'truly independent'.
Now is not 'NEVER', as you term it.
State-wide and National politics requires huge amounts of $$$$ and therein lies the problem. Wealthy campaign donations always come with strings attached. Publicly funded campaigns, no PACs or private money allowed would resolve it, but 1st amendment rights of corporations will stop that.
Musky Odor has launched a 7 figure ad campaign against this supreme court candidate for Wisconsin's supreme court. Why? Because he has a legal case in Wisconsin, and he wants his way.
Donate so she has a fair fight in this election. It's imperative that she wins. https://www.crawfordforwi.com/about
So jealous! Just paid around $300 to bring my infant in for an ear infection (on top of the $1500/month we pay just to have insurance). Insurance will kick in after we hit our 20k deductible! 🙃🙃🙃
Imagine the health benefits of simply not being stressed about going bankrupt anytime your doctor suggests a procedure.
My wife’s coworker has to wait until she can save $1,500.00 for a colonoscopy because it’s not a preventative procedure and her deductible or copay must be paid first.
Well we’re dealing with NUTS and someone who eats GREASY BURGERS 🍔. Don’t know about anyone else but WINE is my breakfast starter 😂 I guess one out of 3 😎
Stress is a killer. Can’t calculate the effect of the additional stress of affordability uncertainty for necessary medication or treatment when you are already sick.
Crazy that people are able to walk around and act like this is how a “first world” nation behaves. It is not.
Hehe, kinda. In Britain we can go to the doc whenever we want... though usually they send us home to see if the problem passes. I'm like, my back's spasming and I've got horrible sciatica in both legs due to nerve damage, and the doc says, go home and see if you feel better.
I’m sorry. That sucks, and I’m legit not trying to say it doesn’t. We get that in America too, but usually someone is still charged for telling you so. Hell, the “should I bring my kid in” nurse line now charges $25 whether they suggest yes or no.
I've heard that kind of story before. The US might be the worst in the developed world for having health depend on wealth. Even so, my back injury was caused by doctors brushing the issue away for 20 years, until it collapsed and I needed surgery. I've never been right since, and I hurt every day.
UK has universal healthcare. Sir Andrew Witty, who is British and CEO OF UnitedHealth Group, came across the pond to do what he can’t do in the UK—Profit from denying healthcare.
Literally just got back from picking up a friend from the hospital. They've had a blood test and a scan.
Total cost £5.50 for 4 hours of parking.
Oh and we got some free sandwiches and coffee.
I pay $1500/month for health insurance, and due to a bout with cancer, will be paying $250/month in perpetuity, on top of that.
I also have to pay a few hundred several times a year for various uncovered medical expenses.
If you've been raised being told that this is the way of things and the best way of doing it and you have no true outside context then what else do you believe?
Europeans also tend to stay in employment longer. Because unlike the US, they can’t be fired on the spot unless they have previous written warning from their employers.
Depending on where you are, you often need a lot more than just a warning. I never understood what kind of psychopath would come up with “at will employment”. Like that concept doesn’t even exist in Europe, when it’s generally presumed in the US (depending on the jurisdiction)!!
The USA does so many things wrong regarding governance too. The speaker of the house is another one. The speaker is supposed to be neutral. Supreme Court justices are NOT supposed to be nominated by politicians, it causes bias and conflict of interest.
Absolutely- even lower judges are often elected so they have to literally campaign. Wtf is that about? Lawyers donating to a judge’s campaign? How is that not a conflict? 😑
Our healthcare is also not tied to employment, so were not stuck in awful jobs because it's that or die in medical debt. Plus we walk a lot more (drive through cash machines?! Seriously?).
Don't ever say this stuff to the Americans. They think '15 minute cities' are an elitist conspiracy, when in reality this shit has existed for centuries!
I think so, both mental and physical health. I could walk away from a job tomorrow but still know my prescriptions are covered by a small fee (I think it's about £100 a year for unlimited prescriptions). I don't have pharmaceutical companies trying to sell me things on TV either! Weird.
We understand to a point, but it's difficult to get your head round just how many other areas it affects. We're so used to popping to the GP and cheap prescriptions, it just baffles us that there are arguments AGAINST universal healthcare! I hope it'll reach you guys once this shitshow is over.
It's become a lot easier for them to understand lately, because the entire world is stressed right now. That's pretty much how we feel, but all the time.
But those TV drugs, I've heard one claim they may induce a lethal bacterial infection to your taint, you know, between the genitalia and arsehole.
Pretty sweet.
I used to work in Pharmacy, many moons ago, and the stuff I saw in THAT drive thru was a blast. Had to call the police a few times. Here's a tip: never have illegal stuff in full view when you have vanity license plates! LOL
Hey, we got drive thru churches!, Banks, Restaurants, covid tests, vaccinations, food banks, cinemas and more.
200lb medium weight has to come from somewhere? And everyone's favorite vacation provider, the heard attack.
I am talking about the US. Here in Spain we need none of that. I rather walk into a nice restaurant, get a fresh three course meal for the same money then in a Burger King "Restaurant" with mush in a paper box
Oh, I've been to Spain (and Greece, mainland Italy, Sicily, France, Belgium and Germany) and they're all amazing for food, not that plastic junk the Americans sell! Why anyone eats at fast food places is beyond me TBH, but I come from a family of chefs, so I thought I was the odd one out there!
I don’t say this to be argumentative, but as Americans, we must ask ourselves if promoting a 45% federal tax for services is what the majority wishes to undertake.
How many would have to declare bankruptcy losing an additional 30% of their salary in taxes over what they pay now?
Thats not how the tax system works in Europe. In the UK, the first £12,570 is tax free. Anything above that and up to £50,000 taxed at 20%, and anything above that at 40%. Not sure where your figures have come from?
Out of 33 countries 32 have national universal healthcare. We’re the only one who doesn’t all because these companies want to make money. We could have universal healthcare also without the healthcare industry.
And their governments don’t try to fleece their constituents. Singaporeans are one of Asians (aside from Japanese) who live a long life due to government subsidies for the elderly and guaranteed housing for them. Healthcare and medications are relatively inexpensive compared to US.
I’m for universal healthcare but this is not correct as there’s long lines for care in some areas. Some in the UK have private insurance to get into certain docs and to get appts easier. A fan of care for all, but people need to be realistic that insurance will not go away. They lobby too hard.
The problem is that in the US the service sucks as well. Often you have to wait over a month to see a specialist. ER has long lines as well. But sadly, I do agree - they spend too much money lobbying & a lot of people are ignorant, which is the perfect combo for health insurances 😢
Exactly! I live in a European country and had ovarian cancer. I had surgery, chemotherapy and follow up care for years and it was covered by the national healthcare system. I never feared for my family's home or my job.
In the USA, not only will it bankrupt YOU, it will bankrupt your entire FAMILY. Or it you "accidentally" get an injection of your medication at the WRONG facility, it will cost you 5 TIMES market rate DESPITE having insurance. It's all one big scam where they charge you what they think they can get.
🇨🇦 I keep seeing stories about people who voted for Trump and now they’re angry because it’s not just THEY that are hurting. The OTHERS that they want to see crying so they can drink their tears. And bizarrely, they expect sympathy. “But it’s ME!”
I moved to Germany after my 20 years of military service in the US, here I found my peace and have no regrets. Still feel so sorry what is happening to my once so beloved America 💙💙😥
STRESS KILLS
Insurance Companies drive up medical costs
The other 32 industrialized nations have Nationalized Healthcare and DO NOT PAY Extra FOR INSURANCE!!!!
while I appreciate the humor here can we all just stomp out the old boomer-ism that wine is good for you? This has been repeatedly debunked, yet I still hear it from 65+ as an excuse to keep the chugging going.
I lived in America from 2005 until 2010. I never enjoyed it and will never return ... even though I'm entitled to my late husbands pension. But to maintain payments, I have to return annually and stay for at least a month.
Eh, FK NAW.
As an example, in France, insulin, insulin pump, glycemic measuring, diabetologist and every health issue related to diabetes are taken care of for the stupendous amount of 0 euros. Yes hospitalization included.
A lot of Americans don’t want European/Canadian health systems because that would mean some of their tax dollars might go to someone they hate, or someone who “hasn’t quite earned it”.
You can go bankrupt here if you choose private medical assistance but that will happen because you wanted to get spoiled and overcharged. If you have a little patience in Spain you are treated for free and with care in the public system. We do not worry about our wallet.
Their life expectancy is better than ours, especially since the GOP passed the law saying WE had to use INSURANCE while THEY get Single Payer, paid for by We the People.
As a Brit (who lives in America) let me add. Visit your family doctor $0, cost consultant $0, specialist $0, surgeons fee $0, anesthesiologist $0, hospital stay $0, ambulance $0. All meds while your in hospital $0. Only fees paid are regular prescription cost = $12.80 regardless of how expensive.
And when I was living there, wait times for appointments were no worse than here in the US which is a big argument the Rs like to use for why universal Healthcare is bad. I had regular midwife visits at my home after my oldest son was born. You can choose to pay for private still but less than here.
Yes and private is transparent. You get cost up front and it's actually often cheaper cash than insurance (since very few have private insurance). And if anyone is confused how it's paid for the answer is your general taxation.
And people here in the states will whine about taxes, but personally I think it’d be an incredible fantasy to have my taxes actually pay for something that HELPS people, that helps ME, rather than pouring more money into hi tech jets or aircraft carriers or more bombs to send to other countries…
On the whole, the European attitude towards work is: clock in, do your shift, clock off, forget about it. No staying at the office 'til 9pm, no calls outside of hours, no replying to emails on weekends, etc... Do your job for 40hrs per week, and that's it. The rest of your time is entirely your own.
Because you have governments that care about you. Ours does not. They just want to keep profiting from us. America is the worst place to live and I want out.
🇨🇦 So can Canadians. What makes so many Americans (i.e. MAGA’s) think that the entire population of the planet is just DREAMING of living in America? We’re NOT! You hit the nail on the head my friend.
We used to see America and think friends. Now? It’s hard not to fear the enemy next door. So sad.
If you’re even partially native Hawaiian, I’m totally with you Brother! They treated you guys like crap, just like we did to our Native Peoples. Don’t know if you’re familiar with our shameful “residential schools” where we kidnapped and kept Native children and ripped their culture out of them.
I’m a retired elementary teacher. Unlike some Americans, especially in the south, we teach our children Canadian history warts and all. My students were always appalled by our treatment of Native Canadians. But they didn’t hate THEMSELVES or feel guilty. Often the rationale in America for NOT…
Are the majority of Americans seeing through trump? Apart from news media, bluesky is my only insight, and obviously, the feedback I get from here is pretty unequivocal!!! What's it like in the US? Are trump fans seeing the light yet?
I live in a red section of a blue state. Several people my children know, who didn’t vote, have expressed regret. Two neighbors with Trump flags took them down and said they were pissed due prices, how he is treating vets, and SS/Medicare/Medicaid. All my family and friends voted Harris-Walz.
I hope you’re letting the Trump voting neighbors know that you ABSOLUTELY blame them and feel not one bit of compassion for their own choices. It was fine when only THEY, THEM, OTHERS, IMMIGRANTS…NOT ME were going to get screwed. In fact they RELISHED it. Waiting for those tasty liberal tears!
Not really it is like Jonestown they are wiling to suffer and die for their cult leader. He kept pushing the envelope and correctly stated that he could kill someone on camera and broad daylight, and his supporters will still love him. Some may not like Trudeau, but at least he loved this country.
I always imagine it’s a bit like people defending a Priest caught assaulting children. They can’t admit that they were taken in by him because it makes them feel foolish. “I think I’d KNOW if the man were a MONSTER! I’m not a complete idiot you know!” Sadly, people have lost FAMILY defending Trump.
They never will. The issue is that for most it has become their identity and they invested so much into it, that denying trump would mean denying their own selves. In addition, it’s a pretty poorly educated segment, so the hope is marginal to nonexistent 😢
I think there is some truth to that, once their own wallet is at stake, that might be the tipping point. But after seeing them sacrificing their families to follow trump, my hopes are slim :/
I think some are beginning… my neighbor Trump flying flag… made a comment to me about prices going up… my response was you voted for that mess then I walked away..😡😤
🇨🇦 Good on you brother! It’s driving me crazy that that was half of his campaign. INFLATION. Now he seems to have forgotten that people even have to make ends meet. But most of his acolytes don’t hold him accountable for ANYTHING! And he KNOWS IT!!!
Most of us can recognize that you have always been there. We saw what you did when Cali burned vs what our own government did. On top of that we've seen you play hockey and nobody wants to fight a Canadian.
🇨🇦 I honestly don’t see that happening. But I think most Americans would flat out refuse to actually ATTACK us, and I can’t see US attacking BUFFALO! It’s insane that Trump has us even talking like this. My niece LIVES in SEATTLE for Christ sake! It seemed like a non-issue. Her company moved her. 🤷♂️
I’m sorry. He doesn’t speak or represent most of us. More voters stayed home than voted for him. Unless we can flip House & Senate to impeach AND convict, we’re just hoping Mother Nature & Father Time are on our side.
🇨🇦 You’re saying he doesn’t speak for you, but he sure as HELL speaks for America on the World stage. Because of those voters who stayed home, we have to deal with his VERY REAL threats and destructive economic attacks. It’s already causing hardship for people here and around the world. So you…
I call my 3 reps daily. I didn’t vote for him. I’m protesting on Saturday. We’re doing what we can. So far, the judiciary is the only thing keeping our country a democracy.
🇨🇦 You’re one of the few I’ve heard from who are actually DOING SOMETHING! Damn good for you. Massive kudos and respect. The vast majority are just bitching about how much it sucks and you KNOW that half of them didn’t even vote. Let alone call reps, protest, do anything! I’ll let my fellow Canucks…
…know that there are at least SOME of you using your DEMOCRATIC rights and RESPONSIBILITIES!! It can be a free ride for our whole lives, so we take it for granted. But having the rights and freedoms we enjoy CAN come with a price. I’m 64 and only paid with my vote. But I’d like to think I’d fight!
…might understand that it’s pretty cold comfort to know that he doesn’t speak for you. I’m not really sure what people mean when I hear that. And I hear it often. “We’re on your side.” OK. I grant you absolution. But how the HELL could you have let this happen?! And let’s be clear. You HAD a choice.
I didn’t vote for him.I voted for the educated prosecutor, not the felon.More people stayed home & didn’t vote than voted for him. Misogyny & racism kept a lot of people from voting at all and now we’re stuck with the felon, who’s already committed impeachable offenses, that won’t have consequences
We have been TAKEN OVER by a coalition of oligarchs … ‘our bad’ … we’re guilty of neglecting our democracy and buying into consumerism … which leaves US without the backbone to stand up … to the “Lords of Capitalism” … we can’t call it capitalism anymore … maybe “pirateering” … or “corporateering” …
🇨🇦 I see that a lot. And I’m sure it’s true. But it’s really hard not to be angry when all you had to do was VOTE. You had a choice. I’m sure you personally voted for Harris. But SO many Dems just stayed home and now they bitch like they’re not part of the problem. I’m conflicted. I have no idea…
…what you did to try avoid this global mess. Knock in doors? Volunteer to hand out flyers? Put up a lawn sign? But so many Americans treated an existential threat to your democracy like a sporting event. “I HATE the GOP. I’m REALLY rooting for OUR side. I even watch RACHEL MADDOW!” It’s frustrating.
I’m not sure you can understand what it REALLY feels like to have your country LITERALLY threatened with ANNEXATION and crippling SANCTIONS in the form of tariffs. Why? Apparently your drug problem is our fault. Or we’re “very unfair”. Either way it’s terrifying. And that leads to anger. I’m not…
…saying this is your fault personally. I’m sure you’re a perfectly nice person. But it IS the fault of Americans. It didn’t have to happen. Just telling the truth. Which Canadians often don’t do. Because we really are a polite society.
The weirdest thing? I feel like I should apologize! 🤷♂️🇨🇦
Consider how armed people are in red states. In my town in Arizona the Dem campaign office got shot up 3 times & a guy put up offensive anti-Harris signs lined with razors to injure anyone who tried to remove them. Every door knock is a potential suicide mission. A Harris sign gets my dog poisoned.
BTW. Is America still the greatest country in the world? You make it sound like you don’t even have freedom of speech anymore because the South has become some Mad Max, post apocalyptic Hellscape. You venture out for supplies, hoping to make it back home to bar the door again. You can STILL VOTE! 🤷♂️
A simple question. Why do you call US citizens Americans? It is true the USA are on the continent of North America, but so is Canada! Why support US citizens in their illusion they represent all of America, as if Canada is already the 51st state!
This is so true when I used to term Americans I usually like to say which Americans otherwise I’m talking about all of North south and Central America. Usually people in the US look at me like I’m crazy for saying US Americans.
When I say Americans I mean US citizens. And I’m pretty sure virtually everyone knows that. Wouldn’t you? I know what you’re saying. However, there’s a time for semantics. This isn’t it.
🇨🇦 Followed you back. I can understand why you would want to live here. It’s absolutely the best freaking country from coast to glorious coast! I’m in Southern Ontario. I have family in Vancouver…probably the most beautiful city on the planet. And down East? Friendliest people you’ll ever meet!
🇨🇦 Nah. We’re generally pretty easy going and really do welcome immigrants. In my experience, if you’re kind to others here then you’re going to receive a kind welcome in return. Yeah, we’re pissed at America, but individuals that are actually here? I think you’d get a fair shake.
They’re also free of the stress of being an American. I spent 17 days in London and Dublin and it was the best sleep I’ve ever had in my life. We are an extremely stressed society, even before this trash of government.
I completely agree with you. I see people in the US constantly on edge - like anything might make them explode at any moment. I think a lot of it is just a lack of security, like job security, welfare, etc. I’ve never felt as on my own as I do in the US 😢
In Sweden health care is free
Medications are free
Child delivery is free inclusive prenatal and postnatal care
12 months maternity leave
4 months paternity live
80% of salary provided to the parents by social security system
But, everyone is paying 34% inkomst tax
I had surgery yesterday, and even with amazing insurance, my pre-op bills are shockingly high and don’t make sense with my coverage. I can only imagine what the actual surgery will cost. It’s disheartening to stress about while recovering. I’d much rather pay higher taxes than deal with this.
With all the other garbage happening in America, I’m at the point where I pulled my great-grandparents’ birth certificates to see if I qualify to move to Europe. (After further research, I don’t think that’s actually a thing…womp womp).
I'm rooting for you! I lost my sister and her son my nephew to prescription Oxy crisis. For a few years I was a volunteer facilitator of grief groups for substance use loss. Lots of people care but the crisis has become weaponized/politicized by regressive conservatives.
What you’re describing sounds like Nirvana to Americans. This country was founded by rich old white men who didn’t want to pay their taxes. Most Americans feel the same, despite the huge benefit they would receive. They’ve fallen for the propaganda.
I’d rather pay that than the corporate welfare we pay. Poor people rely on SNAP benefits because they can’t afford food because they’re paid too little. Instead of requiring employers to pay more, tax money is used to feed them. Then, the poor are blamed & vilified. All so corporations pay less taxes
Every time some tries to do the math, with all the uncertainty in the variables, the US turns out to be massively more expensive than Denmark unless you never get ill and never need to go to school.
Normally those two goes in opposite directions. Low edu. people are more sick statistically
No, WAY more. All costs for the services that are included in your taxes are way higher in the US for profit system. Co pay does not exist and that alone pays all your taxes. I am paying very happily my taxes. What do you get for US taxes? Right, nothing. And SS is going now as well
Yup, some say more for nothing 😀 I live in Spain for many years and got used to paying taxes and getting something, nearly everything, back for it. But in the US that's evil socialism, they die on that hill, literally.
I fully support Canada's public healthcare system but Canadians must pressure gov't to invest in Medicare to ensure the public system is robust and fully staffed with doctors, nurses and technologists.
The price to see a specialist was raised on January 1st to 29.8 dollars. An MRI, costs the same. Parental leave=240 days per parent and child. You can transfer days but the father gets at least 90 days. For medicine there is a high-cost protection scheme. You pay a maximum of 288 dollars per year.
Right now, we have a right-wing government in Sweden, which is also dependent on a party that likes both Trump and Putin. Many were angry when the costs for medicine and healthcare were raised.
And a simple internet lookup would show that the US had a suicide rate of 0.142 per 1,000 inhabitants and Denmark 0.113 suicides per 1,000 inhabitants, I don't even believe that you are swedish...
I am an ex-pat living in Denmark and those numbers are off a lot. We don't pay 80% in taxes that is a lie. I pay 38% income tax AFTER the first 1000 $ Gas is currently 8$/Gallon. - As an older person with several health issues I could not afford to relocate back to the states
"The annual suicide rate in Denmark decreased by 41.5% from 21.35 per 100,000 in 1995 to 12.49 per 100,000 in 2019. The overall decrease ..was higher for females, 53.7% (13.55 to 6.27 per 100,000), than for males, 36.1% (29.48 to 18.85 per 100,000), p<0.0001."
We had an insurance plan, paying 700 a month out of pocket. My son ends up in the emergency room for one night we check out the next morning and we receive a bill for 8 thousand dollars. Our deductible.
Good! It means your taxes are doing the work rather than us: taxes PLUS monthly/paycheck premiums PLUS deductibles PLUS copays PLUS out of network costs PLUS having to call constantly and confirm coverage PLUS having to fight it when it wasn’t covered PLUS a regular percentage on top of that….
I agree. I'd much rather pay a little more in taxes to save my own for health/financial security w/o needing to worry about impending unexpected catastrophes.
Most of the tax-payer funded/free point of use “socialist” healthcare systems are actually much cheaper to run (most schemes in Europe cost 1/3rd of what it does in US, per head) while providing better outcomes…
As a working class American expat, I actually pay less in taxes in Austria than I do back home in the states. When the ultra-rich also have to pay taxes & contribute it makes, you know, a bit of difference! Plus less middle men in the health system chain. We're paying way more for way less in 🇺🇲
💯 We've been drinking the manipulative Kool-aid of billionaire & corporate propaganda for far too long but the poison is really starting to take effect ☠️ Denial can't last forever.
The insurance industry has created the most expensive, most bureaucratic system in the world but dammit we aren’t going to be “socialists” like you Scandinavians! No sireee! We’ll die free. 🤣
Canadians too, if we stay away from all the US junk food full of red dye and low quality dairy full of hormones, that sometimes leaks through our border.

Must be stressful, huh...

And that was just the first hospital visit.
Her costs so far? Nothing, nada.
@NHS - Gotta love it…!
I also have to pay a few hundred several times a year for various uncovered medical expenses.
We’re a nation of idiots.
We have about 80,000,000 who are solid though.
Even the Trumpers are mostly not evil; they’re just incredibly stupid.
Unbelievable.
I pay 147,90 euro’s a month.
My Korean wife’s brother just got a colonoscopy … $200 copay, no paperwork or pre authorization, no surprise bills
