Advocate's for Trans Equality have released a statement on yesterday's New York Times story, stating Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen's quotes were taken out of context by to imply support for those who misgender, and ceding ground.
They state the organization will refuse to cede any ground.

This is like the UK all over again.
If this is truly as blatantly out of context, the NYT should be ashamed.
Just like CNN, they USED to be TRUTH-leaning, but those days are over.
I’ve just been going by how they never seem to call Trump out for any of his wrongdoing, while claiming Biden was too old.
I could be totally wrong.
Thankfully the new Pokemon TCG Pocket gave me a new replacement for my Wordle/Connections daily morning mind exercise, which is the only link to NYT I ever had, lol.
As a Black and Indigenous third gender person all I can say is we been trynna tell everyone. No one listened. :(
it in 2015 or so, and being in Japan since 2014, I haven't paid enough attention beyond "We need to stop Trump." I've remained unaffiliated, and after 2024 debacle have decided to STAY unaffiliated.
Maybe it's different in New York. But I suspect the author might just be a jerk.
It does, however, sound an awful lot like the strawman arguments that right wing pundits are always attributing in bad faith to trans people.
NYT quote of interview subject: People are being murdered. By trans people.
Second: In context, this plays into the transphobic stereotype that trans people go around screaming at cis people all day
Many of us constantly put up with misgendering or other transphobia. Correcting a stranger can even be dangerous
This isn't good
Nightmare shit
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.
