This is classic.
Legislator votes that "using incorrect pronouns" is freedom of speech.
Gets pissy that he is addressed by "Madame Chiarman"

Granted, HB 400 only makes it legal to misgender trans people, and they'd remove me before I could make my point, but still
Also Republican: "No, not like that."
”There must be an in-group which the law protect but does not bind, and an out-group which the law binds but does not protect.”
The ”intent” of the laws for these people does not even start from being fair. Their intention is for the rules to apply […]
The only thing she actually did was remind everyone that pronouns can be weaponized, and I was under the impression that weaponized pronouns were something we decided to stop doing altogether.
We HAVE to stop letting cheap shots be our public relations strategy.

but it’s viral and has momentum so what can you do lol 🤷♀️
Highlighting hypocrisy by using their own stance against them is a classic rebuttal. It shows the absurdity of it all.
Regardless, this isn't fighting fire with fire, it's highlighting hypocrisy. She wasn't malicious in her attack, it was purely to make a point about his voting history.
How would you prefer to highlight his hypocrisy?
Thing is, they can't legislate *who* gets to weaponize pronouns, so let them experience the direct effects of what they legislated.
I don’t care about legality, I’m talking about personal ethics as they pertain to political speech. Consistency. Alignment of the self. That jazz.
I'm unsure if I would do it myself as I have been purposefully misgendered also, but I understand why she did it.
it’s complicated!
Like scissors, I don’t think we should hand someone a complicated issue with the pointy end forward. They’ll hurt themselves.
this particular instance doesn’t bother me, but i get the concern :)
Certainly wasn’t the AnSoc trans woman with a ton of wine bottles and oily rags.
I think Molotov cocktails are “wrong” too, but I know how to use them, and I love my great-uncle who got arrested for throwing them in a student revolt.
😇
I get misgendered constantly. I prefer it to the rape threats.
Best of luck.
Maybe someone who doesn't understand language shouldn't be making laws regulating it.
Indeed! This exchange was perfect.
Like I would absolutely do this as a form of protest.
I would not however continue to misgender him afterwards or in conversation with others, as it's no longer a relevant protest
This is really basic - stuff that small children can grasp.
It’s frankly ridiculous that laws about this are even necessary, but some folks just can’t be decent human beings.
How can they not see how far on the wrong side of history they are?
Malicious compliance.
You cannot force me to use your preferred pronouns. Okay princess pee pee pants.
