When walking in Middle Earth, keep an eye out for Nazgûl, and a skinny little fellow muttering "my precious", and definitely stay away from any tower with huge eye on top!
Did a cross country run yesterday so snapped some really unimpressive pics of Mt. Ngauruhoe aka Mt Doom, who still kept his day job as a live fire range for the New Zealand Army.
I’m actually just down the road from Middle Earth (2hours from mount doom) and yeah, your version wins the day. PJs location scout maybe in touch later…
In our neck of the woods we are waiting for our cherry trees to blossom though our apricots are just starting to bloom. with a week or two before the pear and apple trees burst into bloom. My favourite time here in the Northern Hemisphere.
It’s magical! A few years back I was there under a canopy of trees nearing the end of peak bloom. A cascade of falling petals on a chilly, overcast day with a light sprinkle and slight breeze. It was the most beautiful DC cherry blossom snowfall moment I’ve ever had the fortune to experience 🩷
Important to stop and smell the flowers amidst this Hell...in Japan cherry blossoms symbolize the fleetingness of beauty...and anything else that proves to be fragile...freedom?
I am so damned envious. I actually want to be buried beneath a cherry blossom tree. I've never had the chance to see one in person but they seem so pretty
ALT text: A small stream flows I the middle of the photo. The left bank is covered in lush green with small trees just back from the bank. The right bank stands tall shored up with rocks draped with ivy.
Cherry trees in full bloom arch over the stream, the surface of the water coated with blossoms.
We need these photos in betwixt all the shit we see. Thank everyone for sharing beauty because it’s also part of our reality. And also thank you to those who share the horrors of our reality.
I grew up in the Central Valley of California. We were surrounded by almond orchards and peach orchards. Almonds bloom white. Peaches bloom pink. A beautiful time of year.
Erin! Thank you so much for your work. You are appreciated. Can I please send you a copy of our book, “Finding Eve: Raising a transgender teen in Idaho”??
I was lucky enough to go to DC twice when I was a teenager, and we took those trips on our spring break which would be this week or next. It’s an absolutely beautiful time ☺️
The Japanese word for cherry blossoms is "hana-ikada" , which refers to the way the petals of cherry blossoms fall and flow on the surface of the river.
I was just telling a coworker today about how when I lived in Falls Church I’d walk around the Lake Bancroft neighborhood and it was like fairy land when the blossoms started to fall….and all the blooming bushes. So pretty!!
