Havenβt they always been able to though? Like itβs an extra step to have a log out or have a dummy account, but itβs a trivial one. Public posts are public after all.
I can explain! Having to log out into another account adds a layer of friction, which does a WHOLE lot to reduce casual harassment. Yes, people who want to stalk you can make another account to do so, but the bulk of people who might harass just won't bother. ++
I wish I could remember who it was talking about it about a month ago, because I think studies were cited showing that most people who feel like being a dick just won't bother if it means having to jump through even a slight hoop. So only people actually properly invested will leap.
It's officially gone from "you should really leave Twitter because it feels so nice to not have to use it" to "you should really leave Twitter, for like, the public good"
Basically say you and a bad actor are having a conversation, and then the bad actor quote-posts you to dunk and try and start a pile-on. If you block the bad actor, not only do all posts exchanged between you become unlinked from each other and ++
much harder to view, but both you and the person you block are unable to see each other's posts, and the post they quote-posted no longer shows up on their feed - it shows up as 'user blocked' or something like that. Making it MUCH harder than on twitter to start a dogpile.
Worst part of this, reading the wording, is Musk's legal team is preparing for backlash from Apple and Google. They think "not allowed to engage" will be a loophole out of their marketplaces' terms of service.
I'm just going to block him and tag him in posts calling him the softest of boys so he can see the posts but not interact. Everyone should do that and see how long it takes him to revert the policy.
Lone Skum took arguably one of the most well-known brands in business history and utterly fucked it in about 2 years. Amazing. The blue bird, "tweet/retweet", even the name Twitter. Gone. Replaced by white nationalism, eugenics, Nazi love, and toilet humor for stunted frat bros.
He's only gonna destroy it once. Tumblr has been destroyed and rebuilt like three times now, companies just keep monkey's-pawing their way into owning it, not understanding it and ruining it before selling it off.

Prior to today, you could opt out of having your posts used for AI / generative training. The new amended terms and conditions have made it impossible to do so.
Imagine thinking free speech means your customers should be harassed by nazi trolls they can not block while blocking journalists for hurting your feelings.
This is just a way to push content of accounts that are blocked by a significant number of users (like Elon's and other horrible people) so you are forced to see their garbage on your feed.
I don't want to leave until after the election, but I think I'll tank my account as soon as it's called. Most of the people I like have moved here or elsewhere anyway
I already had my account protected on there to avoid dealing with the overflow of blue check fanboi trolls. Now it will practice be a requirement for safety & itβs impossible to engage that way. I think Iβll probably nuke mine post-election too, esp if it goes a certain way.
First of all, it is not clear at all from the original post that this is about Twitter and not bsky. Second, if you have a public account, you should know that anyone have access to what you post. If you have blocked someone, what's to say they don't have other accounts? Borrowing their friend's?
Technically yes and no. Apple and Google both have rules in their marketplaces where social media apps have to allow users control over what they post, to prevent harassment and bullying. It's not a government rule/law though.
I doubt it will work. Muskrat makes no attempts to hide what he really wants, and I doubt any amount of legalise and law suits will change appleβs nor googleβs mind.
Good news is they're trying to figure out how to go about doing it! It's a huge challenge thanks to how the At Protocol works, but they've seen how many people want the feature and are trying to make it work, much like how they did with DMs :3 It's just probably gonna take time.
:3 I'm happy to be the one to inform you they're working on it, then! Honestly Bsky has its faults, but they really do try to get features the users want up and active.
Oh imo it very much is better than twitter! It's got more "2014 twitter" vibes, before the hyper-tuned outrage-rewarding algorithm popped in. But like, with site staff that actually want users to have a say in what they add to the site?

(maybe you should set thread settings to "thread view (experimental) - or like that, don't know if wording in english version is the same)

1. They just didn't care, or outright just thought the typical system is enough.
2. They benefitted from the dogpilings so there was no incentive to make them harder.
I think in *most* cases it was 1.
Amazing.
I'll buy 10 copies please
If your post is set to private, we send your location to anyone you blocked!
Twitter handles (usernames) will become available for others to take about 30 days after you delete your account.
So, it's probably better to just stop using it, protect it, and interact the bare minimum to keep it active.

This is from someone who used it (but has had to stop more recently just for sanity).
He is ENTIRELY that fragile and insecure.
Now heβll be able to (attempt to) dunk on people who have blocked him without going into the back end.
It's no different from youtube, or the way reddit did things until like 3 years ago.
Per xit. Per hour.
