imagining for a moment living in a world where i'm willing to pay twenty five america dollars for a single month of netflix, and i can't see it. what could possibly be in the premium tier???
Netflix was only worthwhile when they had a seemingly infinite selection of stuff no one else did, and that was when they rented DVDs. From the moment they brought in streaming, their selection was steadily enshittified as they tried to switch people to their own product
That they made a Jerry Springer doc into two episodes less than an hour instead a standalone film is just an insult to anyone with a functional film brain
I have been loaning most of the new Star Trek DVDs from the library. Local didn’t have most recent so put in an inter library loan request. On the up and up and supports my library.
yeah i've been freeloading off other peoples' subscriptions for so long that i didn't even know netflix still had multiple tiers. in my mind i still think of it as it used to be in like 2012 where it was like $8 a month and you get access to everything they got
me too but if a homie is letting me use their netflix account or some shit and they say "hey did you check out [x]? i think you'd like it. it's on netflix btw" then i'm happy to use it. i often do find myself torrenting stuff i could have watched on netflix tho due to not remembering to check
I got Netflix through t-mobile for free with no ads and then they changed it to be the ad plan… 😐 it’s weird because sometimes I’ll get ads and sometimes I won’t
Tbh I don’t know. But I’ll watch Netflix on my iPad and I get ads like 50% of the time. Same with on TV. I use extensions for Hulu and that worked for a while until I just started bumming off someone else instead.
My dad subscribed to that service and burned copies of every DVD he borrowed to give to family and friends. I don't think he totally understood it was piracy, he just wanted to share something that gave him joy. I bet there are still copies of Raising Arizona with his handwriting on them somewhere.
my dad used to order those and rip them lmao. also i just remembered the netflix discs in smash brawl, its funny to think that for a lot of people the wii was just a machine you used for netflix
i remember when you searched on their page for a movie they didn't have on streaming, they would have an option that let you rent it by mail. never knew anyone who ever used that tho. anyone older me would just drive to blockbuster and anyone my age would just pirate it
I know a guy who took full advantage of Netflix's offer back in the day. but this dude is perpetually single and spends most of his free time consuming movies and TV, so he's not exactly a "typical" user.
Netflix doesn’t do good originals anymore either. The occasional limited series but has gone the route of cheap to make murder docs and reality tv. It’s like people keep it just because they are so used to having it.
$8 a month for fucking ads is insane. Remember when we were excited about streaming replacing cable. It seems they took “replacing cable” too literally with these prices
Netflix would rise prices regardless. Trump is selfish enough that he’ll have enough things that are his fault to complain about. (Still I would vote for a wet sock before Trump but let’s put blame where it’s due)
Seriously wondering whether all those streaming services hiking up their subscription plan prices year after year while not really offering anything better realize that torrents are still an active living thing
It’s absolutely bonkers. We have the Disney/Hulu/Max bundle, plus Peacock and Paramount. Those 5 services are, together, only $6 more than the top tier version of Netflix.
No county library? Also your nearest town might still cover ya. Also depending on your state some cities will allow you, also state library (but don't know much about them beyond archive stuff)
County, state 😂 I don't have those either. But I'll see what's near by and if they have Trailer Park Boys to rent. I don't have the highest hopes though. Gotta keep cruisin' the thrift stores.
This is when everyone collectively drops Netflix and Netflix realizes, "Oh shit, maybe it IS better to keep our customers paying lower prices than it is to raise prices and then go bankrupt because all of our customers left, and now no one is paying us anything, ans now we have no money." 😢📉💸
Ngl, this just looks like a coincidence, Netflix has been raising their prices for quite a while now. How is this any different from the other times they raised their prices. Not disparaging anyone, I just want to bring up that there has been a existing trend long before Trump's second term.
thanks for the helpful chart that shows this is at least the third time netflix has increased prices under trump. and just two days into his 2nd term. thanks trumpflation!!
I feel it is not just inflation, this is also the period where Netflix's subscriber count started to stagnate and when all the streaming services fragmented from Netflix, limiting annual profits. I feel this is an issue for which Trump isn't the sole factor to blame.
Omg I fuckin hate it on top of the fact that they posted biggest subscriber gain last quarter. They got enough money they gots to quit squeezing dollars out of us.

That and keep an eye out for physical media at secondhand stores and a device to play it on.

I avoid Netflix like the plague now, unless it’s for their exclusive content.
yay capitalism
They were usually good about sending a new disc out quickly, often before they even got the old one
And now they barely have any shows or movies that aren't ones they produced or bought the exclusive rights to
I can stream Twin Peaks on pluto for free, yeah it has advertisements, but so does prime and "low tier" netflix now.

I'm not getting anything new, nothing is getting better, my internet may actually be getting throttled, but hey, who is going to stop them?
bflix + . + sh / gg / pw etc
A privacy centered browser with a built in ad blocker like librewolf is a good idea.
Well there’s your problem.
(drawing a blank)
Price increases are not new and certainly not based on who the president is.
We will continue to see prices increases because people are cutting the cord due to even more outrageous cable prices.
Time to cancel subscriptions too.
when netflix streaming launched the fucking standard price was 7.99 and now we need to pay 7.99 to watch WITH ADS
actually forget that we'll have a new currency by then lmao
South Africa is paying $10 for premium still
>Posts price increases during Trump's first term
When they cancelled The OA, I cancelled Netflix.
I hope they go out of business.
P $69.99 -> 99.99
F $99.99 -> 129.99
Haven't had Netflix in probably years now? While the content is very different, I can say confidently Dropout remains my favorite streaming service.
Just say no. Cancel Netflix.
