it’s so funny that trump is doing all of this because he wants americans to lose higher tech jobs so that americans have to start building microwaves again

Totally conflating the idea of “factory jobs” with masculinity. The people who want manufacturing to “be back” don’t even want to work those jobs they just want the idea that USA is virile and has buff arms. Those jobs suck! No one wants them! And they aren’t the same
It’s just regular Disaster Capitalism they always do so they can control and own more. Especially why they try to privatize public services and goods, so people are required to pay the Oligarchs to ensure their endless money stream survives Capitalisms failure (see Fascism)
And how are businesses supposed to find the capital to change their operations if the economy is tanked and no one can borrow money? He is one of the stupidest people ever to be elevated to a position of power.
Is it though? “We’re going to make your already very difficult life impossible for the foreseeable future but maybe some day you can work a few shifts on a toaster assembly line doing work that no one has done in this country in decades” doesn’t sound appealing
That's not how the people who live their see it though. They're fully bought into the idea that wealthy elites sitting at computers doing email jobs are the cause of their economic woes.
Sure, and wiping out those jobs in favor of manufacturing ones will bring jobs back, or so the theory goes. Get good jobs and make the elites suffer. A twofer.
Yeah but the rust belt still believes that when the factories open up again they'll get a living wage and health care and not treated like actual factory employees were and are.
they think that being american makes them an exception to the harms of capitalist labor while also not having much higher political perception other than being american
Yeah like, the fantasy is the old kind of factory job, the 'buy a house, support a family, put your kids through college all on one person's salary' kind, ignoring the global economics and labour organizing that was necessary to make that moment happen.
This is not appealing to the rust belt. Spoken as someone who lives in the rust belt. We know they're trying to nuke our states back into the exploitive industrial company towns eras.
They want to make us all serfs again ... only middle-aged and elderly white clowns want that.
Gerrymandering doesn't explain a statewide total for Trump. It only explains why a state might tilt towards one party or another in Congress or the statehouse.
The other part is explained by my second point about the aging white population being force-fed fox propoganda 24/7 ... there's also the lead poisoning angle.
Trump: "These scientists have come up with, get this, a microwave gun. Now I can heat my McDonald's up anywhere."
**No scientists are left to warn him of the dangers of portable microwave gun by Tesla**
That’s correct. Higher tech, professional and skilled jobs take work, time, money, self sacrifice and education. A good portion of America want a high paid, low skilled factory or extraction job that they are able to walk into with limited risk or effort.
Please don’t call us that. Many factory jobs are high pay and good benefits here. I would like a job at an auto plant. Many are pulling in 30 or more an hour plus benefits when minimum wage is $7.25/hr.
My dad worked in an auto factory (non union unfortunately despite efforts to the contrary) and they were always trying to buy him out to replace him with younger lower paid contract workers
My dad worked in factories too. It came down to sales and the broader economy. During Ronald Bitburg Reagan’s term he lost his job several times. It was a severe recession.
Look I have nothing but respect for well-paid blue collar work, and I'm glad some still exists here. But the processes that led to companies offshoring most of that work can't just be run in reverse by blowing up the world economy with tarrifs.
Hahaha, that's now how any of this works. They gutted OSHA, and they're rolling back child work protections, all while destroying public education. These GOP ghouls want Americans working low-pay low-skilled factory jobs with no oversight, unions, or workers' protections.
Don't gotta repeal the 13th when they weaponize the justice department to exploit the 13th Amendment loophole to criminalize, detain, and exploit anyone they want.
Company towns existed for nearly 6 decades after the 13th, and child labor laws wouldn't exist until nearly a century after the 13th.
One of my professors noted that wealth in the United States is not due to hard work. It is a function of opportunity and circumstance. The Justice Department was not weaponized under Biden. Trump plays the “woe is me” victim card.
it's even funnier even at full employment in these fields it wouldnt work. Also unlike Biden attempts he's trying to repatriate industries without rebuilding the damn buildings first
The best explanation I've seen for why he's doing this is that he was envious of Japanese business men in the 90s because they were successful and respected. He blamed that on the US paying for their military so they had more to invest. And he thinks that's what trade deficits are.

You want to work in high tech manufacturing? move to Shenzen, and bring your own suicide prevention net. Fucking idiots.

Indiana is also highly gerrymandered, and +40% of its population is 55+
I don't feel like pulling up Southern MI or Eastern PA, but the numbers are very similar. My point stands as originally stated.

As for your professors note, I'd wholeheartedly agree. If hard work and toil made a nation prosperous, India would be a global powerhouse by now.
