I’ve never seen a waxwing in the flesh, let alone photographed one, so my New Year’s resolution is to put that right. I’m in Surrey but willing to travel 50 miles or so. If you know of a good reliable spot for them, please let me know. Forever grateful. Thanks. - ThreadSky

We get them in San Diego the are wintering birds, generally December thru March. February is when we have our International Bird Festival. A thought for next year.

I'm in the middle of the US so I can't be helpful in pointing you to a spot. But they're my gateway bird and I can only wish you luck because they are really really cool and for real on of the few birds that I just want to touch (haven't btw) b/c they're so pretty.

This time last year a bunch of them resided at the Teifi Marshes reserve near Cardigan for several weeks. They were so obliging about posing for photos too! No sign yet this year (and too far from Surrey of course).

Last year was a 1 in 7 year event, only a handful seen in Scotland this year, unlikely to get such a large influx in the next few years. Last time we had numbers in Berkshire was some 10 years ago, last time I saw them locally was 20 years ago to give you an idea of the variability down South

There don't seem to be many in England at the moment. I think someone already pointed out that irruptions are periodic. Always depend on Scandi food supply for them, I believe

Not a great Waxwings winter this one. Hardly any records anywhere 😔 Some winters they arrive everywhere others none at all. All depends on berry crops in NE Europe etc
