Agree. Being genX it seemed movies they made dealt with some form of doom:
Wargames
Miracle Mile
The Day After
Red Dawn
Terminator
I know there are more, but these jump to mind. Even the show Bensen had an episode dealing with it.
As an adult? Just lt me be at ground zero please. No more work/bills
Miracle Mile is a hell of a movie to go into without knowing anything about it. First half hour: what is this, a rom-com? Second half hour: oh, so now it's like a Twilight Zone episode in an all night diner. Then shit gets BUSY.
I was just telling some coworkers yesterday about how we had nuclear bomb drills, going onto a dark brick hallway and sitting on the floor, back in the 70s
I was told not to worry about it. We lived close enough to a likely target we wouldn't make it anyway. I did have to make sure not to get ritually sacrificed by Satanists though
I recalled a nightmare I had when I was younger recently. In it, my family was running from a big mushroom cloud. We made it to a building, but it was above ground and through the windows I watched my city be destroyed. The windows melted, it was very hot, and I woke up. 😰
"Ten to doomsday, moving fast
Heads up! Mind that blast
No time to sleep, it's Def Con One
Can't get no sleep as the ticking ticks on
No time to fear, it's Def Con One
No time to eat, so get me some
Big Mac, fries to go
Gimme Big Mac, fries to go"
i'm a late-mid 80s hs kid...my high school's nuclear bomb shelter was 1/2 mile down the road...at my town's BREWERY. i remember doing a walking-drill to the location. we all thought it was "way cool", until we started thinking about the logistics...

We never knew if this was the one.
In 62 Mom said all the other ladies decided to sit on the porch and watch a once in a lifetime event.
Best thing now is to
just blow my ass to kingdom come.

All that creative angst came out in amazing ways.
Look under albums released that year. It’s astounding.
