Scientists use NIH funds, among other things, to build cutting-edge laser-scanning microscopes to study all forms of healthy functions and disease states. Those microscopes need optical components, like objectives and lenses, and lasers. Funding cuts have economic ripple effects that last years.

Lactobacilli (good bacteria) can make it to the vagina by the gastrointestinal route passing from the rectum to the perineum to the vagina. It takes about a week for the lactobacilli to make via the gastrointestinal route.
