Add to that the fact that we were pack hunters going after megafauna and our young can't pull their own weight for like 15 years, and the idea that we'd just leave our own to die becomes extra laughable.

Of course you're 100% correct.

The problem is that evidence isn't something that convinces the enemy. They don't operate on those terms. To the enemy, truth is a matter of whatever you can force other people to go along with, and they believe they are entitled to be the one forcing.

It's even contrary to hominid nature. Iirc there's a Neanderthal skeleton of someone who lost an arm and leg to a cave bear, and someone cared for his wounds and kept him fed and clothed for years more, despite his disability.

Plus there are so many stories, myths, cultural traditions, and religious practices all over the world that focus on compassion, caring for elders and sick/disabled people, helping people in trouble, etc. And those ideas go WAY back, in stories dating to the Stone Age.
