as it was, harris performed relatively well under strong anti-incumbent conditions. candidate choices might only to be a pt or two either way.
Harris outperformed in states she actively campaigned in and she was near the top in terms of incumbent party performance relative to the rest of the world against a historically strong headwind against incumbent parties.
These aren't subjective measures.
The only people who may have thrown their hat in the ring were Dean Phillips and his ilk. A common complaint is that Harris campaigned too much towards the center.
I'm also not convinced either way that Harris or her replacement would have outperformed if Biden didn't seek reelection
