Cool I think we should send the army in to break this cult up.

Seems like this email could severely backfire, in that it demonstrates the utter toothlessness of DOGE’s absurd directives. The question that kills DOGE has always been “Wait, are you the boss of me? Says what law?” and now Elon is forcing a lot of people to ask it.

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

Keep at it

Elijah Cummings wasn't so great at the Oversight job because he was a venerable institutionalist, he was so great at the Oversight job because he was great at smacking down Republican bullshit

I think what made 2024 really suck is that all of the signs pointed toward late breakers going for Harris and they... didnt

its beyond fucked up that a bunch of self-described leftists are making a folk hero out of someone who is more or less politically indistinguishable from a DOGE kid

The SAVE Act is specifically designed to disenfranchise a ton of American women. Let us recall how many of the techbros now infiltrating the American government, like Peter Thiel, believe that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

I have a theory that there are exactly two kinds of cultures in the world. Those that recognize this immediately as saying "eat poison and die," and those that don't read any aggression into the businesslike curtness on display here. I'll leave you to determine where a brash New Yorker fits here.

This is what I mean when I say that some elements of the Left are a lot more comfortable with Trump's attempt to revive 19th century Imperialism than with post-WWII internationalism, because it's the paradigm that their ideology is actually designed to interface with.

remember how i told you yesterday that i've talked with people who are volcanically angry? boy, do i have a story for you coming on monday.

lmao even Kash is like "hold up"

one of the problems with the prospect of liberals surrendering power to the left is that there is no one to surrender to

It's /profoundly/ hard not to be at least a little bit elitist to these people.

Probably should have stopped after “I haven’t read any theory or know anything”, but alas. (also throwing Ukraine and Hunter in there is hilarious)

The history of which planet???

illegally suspending PEPFAR may actually kill more people than the Holocaust

This smug gleeful piece revels in scolding the dumb libs for being cringe and caring about things. It welcomes fascist Trump’s Ukrainian surrender and insists resisting against fascist Putin is impossible. People with seething contempt for EU liberals but resigned acceptance of fascism are fascist.

i think you should expect someone whose family is at risk from something you are presently doing to act unreasonably to harm you

gonna write them and tell them about DOGE IS FOUR LETTERS

the decision to spike the football after Nevada and taunt everyone else in the coalition instead of like... like some magnanimity to widen your own tent was really *a* decision to make

BREAKING: As Elon Musk said on X would be happening, I can now report that all federal employees are receiving an email directing them to provide “approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week.” It directs them not to send any classified information and is due by 11:59p Monday.

The left needs to work with liberals because a) the left is mostly liberals even if people pretend they aren't and b) the number of people who are committed to leftist politics is absolutely tiny.

sirota sephiroth-posted "we are going to go all the way to the convention with a plurality after the moderates fail to consolidate then dare them to blow up the coalition by not making me the candidate" and immediately thereafter the moderates consolidated. this is compared to murder

what I can’t work out is how you even had a 2020 tweet stuck in your Bluesky drafts to send

On a certain level I get why progressives are afraid of Cuomo entering the race, but he’s someone with an incredible amount of baggage who left Albany in shame with an approval rating in the low 30’s. He’s beatable when you remind people who he is.

I wouldn’t think “moved to root out diversity initiatives” is a useful phrase for journalism at all, but using it as a euphemism for a purge of high ranking black officers is downright Orwellian.

Trump lies his ass off at CPAC: "77 million [votes] and it's actually much more than that, because despite that, they cheated like hell. It was just too big to rig."

I'm starting to think that repeatedly grooming NYC machine pols to be the next generation of Democratic congressional leadership was one of the great mistakes of the post-Citizens United era. Their loyalties are misplaced, their instincts unhelpful, & above all they are visibly, painfully soft

Luigi discourse is cursed, and frankly a sign of political infantilism

On the one side, I do not love being a Jew in a country now ruled by explicit Nazis. On the other hand, this is all amazing ad footage for the Dems in 2026.

I think the older Dems are genuinely good at managing a raucous caucus and moving hill creatures around to where they need to be. Very good, in Pelosi’s case. But that’s just not the game anymore, that’s not what the moment calls for. And what replacements they have groomed aren’t ready either.

You're the part of civil society that's supposed to push back when a president fires a senior military officer on the basis of their skin color, not shrug your shoulders about norms like a fuckin quisling

Putting a finer point on this, since other Mike reminded me Caine would only be filling the remainder of CQ's term - if he's reappointed to a full term Senate Dems must fight it - if he's in the seat come 20 Jan 29 he must be fired - if he's not reappointed actions re: his replacement would be TBD

So based on the article below, as of January the voting members of the College of Cardinals consisted of: 6 JPII 23 Benedict 110 Francis Just so everyone knows what the lay of the land is

the other part of this is it makes them particular vulnerable to open defiance

All this bullshit immediately crumbles when it's presented to anyone who's not a sympathetic cohost on your podcast

Yeah I think if a Dem Tea Party happens it's not gonna be about ideology, it'll be about temperament

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

let me say that this is the classic “just asking questions” approach to delegitimizing the achievements of black people. and critically, you don’t even have to be a black person who talks about race. simply being black to these people means you are “obsessed with race.”

A thing I've been thinking about in an age of weak parties and political personalism is that structural thinking about how to pressure politicians needs to give way to some extent to basically putting individual pivotal politicians on the couch and trying to figure out what they want.

Is Vladimir Putin calling the shots?

they like him and want him to rule us like a king.

thank you Judge Ho 🫡
