I'm not big on perfume (I have one inexpensive bottle of basic stuff I use when I have to do Important Events), but as a child I was obsessed with a bath & body works scent called Cucumber Green Tea. I loved that it was so much more subtle than the then-popular Cucumber Melon,
had a calming aroma that I now associate with stuff that purports to smell like eucalyptus now, mildly sweet and floral. I would never wear it now, but they discontinued it very quickly and something in me wishes I still had a small bottle of it around I could just sniff on occasion.
....actually yeah. This is not anything I've ever given thought to, and I started liking wine because a friend who was into wine basically had a wine-version of this conversation with me once.
My only thoughts on this are I like herbs and flowers, and I'm pretty laidback and usually on a budget :P
I come from a family of women who all have a "signature scent." It's, like, an early 20s rite of passage. My mom wears Youth Dew and her mom was a Chanel No. 5 gal. My dad's mom wore Chantilly Lace. I'm a Pure Poison lover. 💕
I used to get a perfume from the renaissance festival called Sexy Beast that was somehow both musky and sickly sweet. I probably wouldn’t want to wear it now, but it was absolutely perfect when I was in my late teens to early 20s.
I love possets perfume! they have such good musk and silver. I wear Beatrice and Silver Sandalwood a lot, am wearing Testosterone right now which has great realistic leather notes
I’m not a perfume person but I love lemongrass and grapefruit combination of essential oils which reminds me of ice in a lemonade glass on a humid summer day
larrea from la curie, like the southwest desert after rain (softly leather musk but mostly creosote), kyoto from cdg, incense but mostly wood, dry warm cedar on a sunny afternoon with a light incense floating in on the breeze
That's funny, I finally made it into the Fischersund store yesterday! It's so quirky and fab, and the scent descriptions are really unique. Had a great chat with the lady there 🤩 There's also an eruption scent that they do, but that's exclusive to Perlan 🌋
Anything from “Jo Loves”… out of England. Or her first line “Jo Malone” which was bought by Estée Lauder and is in good department stores.
Concept is layering. Highly recommend trying some out.
I burned out on L'Instant Magic by Guerlain after using up two bottles to the last drop, didn't buy a third, and it got discontinued so by the time I wanted to smell like candied almonds again, I couldn't. (The new one smells totally different to me.)
And I'm so grateful for this thread because I just googled my other lost perfume (Shalimar Perfum Initial) and apparently this time Guerlain reissued it as L'Initial with the same scent and I need to hint down a tester tomorrow, I'm so happy 😸
Chloe Nomade Absolu my beloved. (Regular Nomade is also fine, but Absolu plays up the woody notes, which I like. I like to smell like I have just crawled out of the woods). Notes include oak moss, mirabelle plum, and davana
Right now I'm super into the Margiela scents--Sea Day (?) is my current fave, but I also have a bottle of Funfair Evening (?) that I'm hoarding. I also will ride or die for Jo Malone apricot blossom (?). I don't want floral scents; I want fresh and clean or citrusy/peachy. I want sweet.
My go to is By the Fireplace by Replica. Starts off smokey and eases into a pleasant vanilla by the end of the day. The portraits line by Penhaligon’s is really fun too.
I love and wear all the masculine ones depending on my mood, but Teddy is my favorite. I think William is supposed to be the gender neutral one and is very nice. Of the feminine ones Constance is my favorite. My wife is more into delicate, flowery scents and doesn’t wear anyone them very much.
