We're in the beginning phase of Trump's "Great Leap Forward". How many are going to be dead because of his policies will be hard to calculate and harder to fathom.
Didn't Jon Stewart scold everyone in his latest episode for saying fascism is here/coming because "they're doing it legally" or some bootlicking nonsense like that?
Like the French under nazi occupation, sooner or later each American will find themselves in a moment where they have to choose between collaboration and acquiescence, or resistance. And I have a feeling that will be sooner rather than later.
Thing is, when you start using terms out ahead of what people recognize is fact, they think you are crazy and quit listening to you. Is he a fascist? Yes. Was that clear to the majority of Americans 6 months ago? No it wasn't.
Trump said at rallies he wanted to deport immigrants who were "poisoning the blood" of Real Americans.
They didn't know he was a fascist? Of course they did. They voted FOR fascism.
They didn't need to know how to spell or even form "fascist" with their mouths. They heard exactly what was being said, both explicitly and with dog whistles. They voted for exactly everything being promised. They just thought it wouldn't apply to them, cause they were white/honorary white.
That's a very old story in the USA. I'm San Francisco Irish. We were granted whiteness when we became the cops. One of our first actions was backing the Chinese Exclusion Act. It's a shame we carry to this day.
I thought this conversation was about the rhetoric the anti-Trump movement could helpfully use.
And I'm still saying that I'm not discounting stupidity. Remember those interviewed who didn't know their family members would be deported? They thought Trump would only deport "the bad people."
We obviously have different analyses of what has happened and what it will take to snap people out of voting/siding with white supremacy's last gasp, at their own peril. "Good" white people gotta call a spade a spade. It's deep-seated racialized fear that this nation was founded on and will die by
When their favorite restaurant closes, they can no longer afford fresh produce, and there is nobody in town to put a new roof on their house, they will understand what they voted for.
The average American doesn’t read books or take the time to study anything in depth. You do, I do, many do and that’s a wonderful thing. I humbly suggest we retire terms like fascism. Plain language that the average person speaks has been enormously effective since Gutenberg
So fascitic or authoritarian things happen, we need to avoid calling it out and spoon feeding somebody something they’ll understand. “Yeah he’s evil, but what’s in it for me?”
Regardless. We now live in a fascist nation. Our new allies are Putin, Orban, and Modi. The Axis of Deplorables. We are the bad guys on the global stage. And our deranged leadership has nukes.

directly. Plain targeted language.
Fascism uses scapegoating, a mythic past, nationalism, and propaganda.
Jon Stewart is right, that Trump is still within democracy, but his goals...
Education clears the light, rather than eliminating a word. Teach what the word means is a far superior tack.
