Or per the definition; where light can’t go you can be in an umbra even during the day. I feel like you are arguing for the sake of it rather than appreciating the learning of something you didn’t know before.
Ok but why does the vampire only get hurt after the scientist informs him? Does his perception impact the vulnerability? If I told this same vampire "Sunlight doesn't actually hurt you, that's just a myth we made up to stop you from going outside during the day" would he be safe from the sunlight?
"I watch how the moon sits in the sky in the dark night
Shining with the light from the sun
The sun doesn't give the light to the moon assuming
The moon is going to owe it one." Linkin Park A Place For My Head.
Sunlight doesn't hurt Dracula, it hurts Nosferatu/Orlock. Dracula isn't a vampire, he's a magician who made a deal with Satan to have ghost powers. Actual explanation from Dracula the novel. John sees Dracula in daylight in London while walking with Mina, Dracula was picking up a ho.
ran out of room but the book explains John seeing Dracula buy a present from a shop, give it to a woman and she gets into his carriage, seems kinda like ye olde Anora
In the movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula", there is a daytime scene with Dracula, wearing shades. A narrator briefly explains: "Contrary to popular belief, vampires are not harmed by sunlight and can walk freely during the day. However, it is not their time, and their powers are at their weakest."
Well technically there’s been branches and different breeds of vampires since as some even can traverse in the day. There’s vampires like ascension dio and alucard from helsing that are immune to the daylight curse.
The moon scatters more blue light than the rest of the spectrum so has a red shifted appearance, if vampires are "allergic" to ultra violet light from the sun they may be impacted less by moonlight.
Actually when you pay attention to the original version the details entail that the original vlad the impaler could traverse through the daylight and also take forms. Look into the helsing series. It’s not the original source but an anime adaptation that i love and enjoy. :)
Selective Reflection: The Moon's surface reflects different wavelengths of light with varying efficiency. For example, the Moon is more reflective to certain visible wavelengths and less reflective to others, like blue or ultraviolet light.
It does annoy me as well when these get cropped, which is why I marked it as unknown. I knew you knowledgeable guys on bsky may know the answer. Glad to give full credit.
Like in H2GT2G, when God is forced to confront the fact that the Babel Fish (for the unitiated, it's a small fish that feeds on sound waves and excretes their message in an understandable way) was obvious proof that he exists, as evolution would not favor that, and God disappears in a puff of logic.
They had to nerf original Dracula when the mythos became more popular.
It wasn't that he could just shapeshift into whatever he wanted, he could change into multiple of them. (Or at least, I think I faintly remember him turning not just into a wolf but a pack of them.)
Here's the annoying truth about vampires: every, and I mean EVERY author who writes about them reinvents the vampire lore. So when it comes to what hurts them, what their powers are, and how you become one, the answer is always the same: it depends on the book.
I personally like the version in V-Rising: everytime you are outside in the daylight, it appears as if god is personally focusing a magnifying glass in order to fry you.
Hi there, scientist here: vampires only burn up if exposed to sunlight from direct rays. Incident light from an internal room (but not in a window), moonlight, etc cannot kill a vampire bc the rays aren’t hot enough.

Oh wise one, what is more important: the sun or the moon?
Answer: The moon, of course, because we need the light more at night. 🤣
The original Dracula wasn't killed by sunlight and could roam during the day as whatever form he was in when the sun came up.
Lion, tiger, demon dog... Whatevs
