The largest supporters of incremental liberal progress believe a fascist is walking into the White House and democracy is over but also this system is our only option and it works

also that it's good that the people they say are saving us from fascism are just politely handing the keys to the kingdom to the fascist and welcoming him in without putting up a fight
biden might be uniquely evil and spiteful, though
kamala: this must be so hard for you... thank you for your support
biden: sure, jack. see you at the booth (votes Trump)
trump: politics, not so nice! but you're so nice to me, joe
biden: sure, jack. see you on the links (presses nuclear war button)
A fascist is walking into the White House. And the fascist aspect would’ve been scarier if Trump had appointed more heritage foundation ppl but he’s kinda gone rogue? He’s setting up a lot of incompetent LOYALISTS. There’s a bigger chance we will have a 2028 election because of it
Dunno man, think it would be cool if you dinguses were planning to do anything except wait four years and see what happens so you can do the bit you find fun: yelling at leftists on the internet to vote for some absolute hack democrat candidate because compromise makes you cum.
This is such an unbelievably important concept that very few people are discussing. You've hit the nail on the head about the fragility of the US political system and why it's unlikely that the US will be able to reverse course. Of course, liberals are still blaming "protest votes" for Harris' loss.
Thank goodness that instead of dismantling the US police state, Biden/Harris admin and Democratic-controlled state governments choose to spend the last four years assiduously building up the same police state machinery fascists need to exert control and shut down democratic governance.
Honestly the complete failure of the liberal establishment should mean it gets abolished.
...However that establishment has been failing for a century. That's the point. It's not there to win.
fascism is a lot safer for the liberal ruling class than political unrest at the hands of the streets, so why would they care
They just needed to fearmonger to get more people to depend on the democratic party, they didn't have any actual intention of combatting fascism
As a European I think it depends on what you mean by 'the system'. If you mean 'a two-party system where one of the parties is too concerned with respectability to do anything useful to prevent the growth of the far right' then I agree. If you mean 'representative democracy' then I don't
Makes sense. But then none of these traits seem particularly intractable, and could be changed by amendments to the constitution - especially if other democracies evidently don't suffer from the same deficiencies.
I thought @jazzguineapig.bsky.social was implying far more fundamental issues...

Big assumption I’m a lib like that
Liberals can’t account for liberalism’s role in where we find ourselves today.
“It’s just bad people!”
No! It’s a system that creates and then allows bad people to benefit from it.
Now this may actually destroy America if we last until ~2040 because there's no way to change the Senate in the Constitution:
...However that establishment has been failing for a century. That's the point. It's not there to win.
oh hi mr. hitler, let’s have a nice fireside chat. here’s the keys to the nuclear weapons. have a nice day!
We will be like the UK in Canada if we’re not careful

Fascists need liberals so they have someone to do the boring admin work.
Most other nations have some presence of politics left of liberal. The US worked very hard to prevent that.
