I feel like a marxist pope implies he's not trained on just christian theology, but also spiritism. (also can't they get a new word? Like why Marx my man was as militantly atheist as it got).
"Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people...
The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions."
Marx takes the time to debunk Christian Socialism in the Communist Manifesto, so I'm pretty sure right-wingers calling parts of religion "woke" was a thing during his time too.
Considering the church's strident opposition to communism throughout the 20th century, the idea that anyone who is a Cardinal and could get enough votes to become Pope is in any way a Marxist is utterly silly.
Honestly Catholics should support Socialism since much of Catholic doctrine is based on charity and the evil of extreme individualism. Also the Catholic Church will eventually change their doctrine towards LGBTQ people. It will most likely happen with younger generation pope.
Jesus was an immigrant and fought for the Poor. I will never understand why so many Christians hate poor people. It’s very unchristian to hate anyone. If Jesus was around today in America he would be deported and sent to a prison camp.
I think that, Karl Marx, would like it. If he actually turned out to be a "Marxist Pope". Especially today when the Christian elements and roots of Communism is almost forgotten. Not to many think of The League of the Just/Outlaws or the works of the American Quakers now.
it's because of the Liberation theology.. which is a Marxist movement, but catholic. it's very big in latin america and if the pope is Peruvian/American and "progressist", there's a chance he is/was affiliated with this movement
It's genuinely funny to me that they have been using the same scare tactics for 70+ years and there are still idiots who fall for it! You can't count on much in this world but you can always count on a conservative getting conned!
Indulgences have existed long before capitalism. I’d have to check on the dates but probably more so mercantilism. Maybe even earlier than that. Also it should be mentioned that Marx does not believe money is bad - he thought it had many uses - but that capital should be in the hands of proletariat.
Marx is just a human that had an opinion that has been proven to be just an ego/unconscious rumination of error that resulted in millions of deaths, and it has not stopped yet. The pope is just another human with ego/unconscious rumination of continuing error
Marx doesn't say that religion is 'good' or 'bad,' he sees god (as does Feuerbach - and unlike Hegel) as reification, just as he sees the commodity as reification - I am sure you recall the passus about the dancing tables in Capital.

Blah, blah...
That's not even the exact quote, but yeah.
*swings from the chandelier*
Marx - "Ballyhoo! What a coup. 10 points for Karl."
He has been involved in pedophile scandals - someone told me on the train.
He's supposed to be pro worker. We will see

It really is the ultimate uno reverse card for anyone saying "Marx didn't know what he was talking about!"
What you are trying to say is so dumb that I embrace the failure to say it.
hey wait why is it going to china immedantly
To hell with sarcasm. Tell me what you know.
the "opiate of the masses" quote isn't necessarily derisive, opium was seen more as a pain-killer than an addictive substance at the time
i know it's hard to read tone
but maybe just try.
JDPON's a thing
that's a branch of Maoism.
