Duffy on the New York City subway: "It's dangerous. It's dirty ... they don't want you to drive your car. They want you to take a train. If you want me to take a train, make the train safe, make it clean. But if you won't do that, we're gonna pull money."

Saw a head on collision in front of my neighborhood last night that resulted in death. Should probably pull the money from Dept of Tennessee transportation committee since it’s not safe to drive here.

Things can happen to you while you’re driving or while you’re on the train or while you’re on a bike or while you’re walking. Because things can happen to you. You could just as easily say no driving should be allowed until all car crashes (including pedestrian injuries) are eliminated.

Having just been part of a project for a street redesign in my small town downtown (that failed to pass referendum): you can present all the safety data in the world, but there is a “control” factor around driving with which statistics really can’t compete.

YESTERDAY I watched a car come to a full stop, THEN run a red light. I avoided the collision, the person next to me couldn’t. Yeah, I’ll take the subway any day of the week.
